How Teachers Create Write to Read and Read to Write

Teachers often integrate strategies of content literacy by including storybooks, textbooks, and informational text to acquire more information for the students to learn. An effective teacher knows that following the syllabus alone does not improve the literacy level of the students and thus some techniques are applicable in teaching to enable the student to get a better understanding of the content. For example, before introducing a new topic, the teacher asks a few questions about the subject allowing the learners to brainstorm and when they are finally introduced to the subject, they can answer some of the questions they were unable to earlier. Role play and debate also enable the teachers in content creation and delivery. In a role play, the instructor divides the students into small groups after they have read the passage or play and they improvise. When they interpret the passage before the other students in class without having to refer to the comprehension, it boosts their confidence and understanding of the topic at hand. Similarly, the debate involves persuasion, interpretation of content, public speaking and teamwork. Teachers use discussion to strengthen critical thinking capabilities of the learners as they have to defend their arguments and reasons convincingly. 

Simulation, another technique for content creation differs from role-playing in that students are asked to use their knowledge and intellect to solve a problem instead of getting into character. The method works best for organized activities like science experiments, arts, and physical education. The outcome of this method is that students can think critically, reason and apply their knowledge because the simulation activity is engaging. Teaching requires patience especially in a diverse classroom where there are children with disabilities who may be a little slow in capturing some of the concepts. For instance, in comprehensions and passages, such students should be allowed to take their time because reading the passages out loud boosts their confidence and improves their level of fluency and communication.
