Musicians Raising Consciousness and Awareness through Music

Addressing social changes through the use of music has numerous explanations as to why musicians do what they do. For instance, back in the 50s and 60s, freedom songs played a crucial role as the artists used the music to inspire people to participate or even show their support for the struggle for freedom ( Smithrim & Upitis, 2005) . Moreover, they used their composition to encourage people to persist on or to foster an impression of the commune.

Performance in Public Spaces

Artists and musicians prefer to use open places to present their works as it is more effective than closed spaces as there is a limitation of spaces in private homes ( Smithrim & Upitis, 2005) . Public spaces allow large numbers of people to attend hence making it sufficient to pass messages that focus on social changes.

Restrictions on Message Types during Public Performance

When performing in large congregations such as those found in public forums, the singers face more restrictions on the type of message. Musicians presenting their works in open spaces have to ensure the messages do not contain profanity or negativity like drug use as the words reach a diversified audience ( McKeown, Weir, Berridge, Ellis, & Kyratsis, 2016)

Community Building

When offered a chance to create a venue, I will use the driveways and garage to bring in a different experience from that of Benoit and Elaine. I would use a variety of flowers to create a lasting experience for the artists as the venue will only host paintings. The theme of the grand opening for the event will be environmental management and conservation. The selection of the garage and driveways offers an allowance for people to come in and out at pleasure, thereby making an allowance for a large group of people to visit as they spend lesser time compared to those listening to music.
