Age is the NSAA rule that I have picked from this week’s activities such that I can develop a plan for the school to avoid violating the rule. According to the age rule, the students are required not to have attained 19 years before 1 August of the current year for them to be eligible for the high school student-athlete transfers (FOX 5 Atlanta, 2016a). The school should frequently train the teachers and other staff responsible for the athletic department such that they can guide the students when preparing for the transfers. Most of the students register for the transfers innocently without knowing details about the age rule only for them to be dropped due to lack of eligibility as per the rule (Associated Press, 2010). Such students suffer from lack of adequate guidance from the teachers and other staff in the department.
The teachers and the staff dealing with the students anticipating to register for transfers should have update guidelines from NSAA such that they can identify any characteristics that might lead to a violation of the rule in advance. Many students falling under the category of Washington feel disappointed after preparing for the transfers only for them to them dropped at the tail end of the eligibility process (FOX 5 Atlanta, 2016b). The school should develop an exemption policy, which will allow such students to register for the transfers.

Considering the case of Washington, he was not allowed to play after preparing for the even for a long period, which led to the court processes that wasted much time and psychological torture to the student. It took the intervention of the court for Washington to be allowed to play basketball ( Washington v. Indiana High School Athletic Ass'n) . The school can avoid such process and delays by creating the exemption policies for students with learning disabilities and other challenges (Labecki & Dearing, 2015). The teacher and the staff in the athletic department should organize frequent school forums where the students can raise any issues relating to the rule and professional are outsourced such that they can train the students about the rule. When the students are aware of the rule, they can help the teachers and other staff in avoiding violation of the rule.
