My experience during the Virtual Escape Room activity was revealing and informative. I was able to learn about my team player style, which typically dictates how I collaborate and function within a team. My central team player style is contributor/task-oriented (with a score of 56). A contributor is a team member who is typically task-oriented. This means that the team member enjoys offering the team with valuable data and information (Hasty, n.d). Contributors are valuable members of the team because they focus on accomplishing the task at hand (Ngo, 2016). I agree with the results of the team style assessment. I typically love to finish the task at hand in an efficient and timely manner; I also demand high quality and also push the entire team to strive for excellence. I believe that my contribution is critical to the success of my teams.
The team style assessment helped me to dissect and learn how my character and attitude can affect the functionality of a team in both a positive and negative manner. For instance, I was able to determine that my being task-oriented, I tend to push for impractical performance standards from my team members, and I also go into data overload with long project reports. However, I am good at training others, and I also love to offer a detailed plan of action (Sohal, 2015). My ability to collaborate with others is often strained, especially when other team members are unable to live up to my standards (Hasty, n.d). My team style has a number of merits and demerits. One advantage is I am dependable and help the team to complete tasks in time. Another advantage is I offer a big-picture focus, which allows my team to concentrate on the long-term objectives (CRM Learning, 2014). However, I have areas that I need to work on. One such area is I lack patience with process issues and team climate. Also, I can linger on the big-picture thinking and prevent the team from moving forward (CRM Learning, 2014). I need to work on these areas so that I can contribute better to my team.
