The author, Martin Meadows focuses on the area of self-discipline and looks to provide his readers a 21-day blue print through which they can achieve their desired level of self-discipline. He describes self-discipline as the ability for an individual to do what he or she purposes to do. He explains that self-discipline will be evident when one has the assurance that whatever plan he or she has made will be fulfilled. Even though self-discipline may not stand as a psychological disorder, it stands as a life skill that makes significant difference in one’s life. The desire to increase knowledge on the concept of self-discipline is what drove me to the book. As the author provides a 21-day blue print to achieve self-discipline, I can put into practice some of the information he provides and recognize how it helps me advance this life skill. 

Meadows’ writing style and language is simple and easily understandable. It is a book that an be read and well-comprehended by a person with little to no knowledge in psychology. Reading though the book, one realizes that the author uses the second person so that the information is taken at a personal level by the ready. He does not use psychobabble in his writing and makes the book and his blueprint applicable to individuals across the board. For instance, his reference to SMART goals is not an aspect that is limited to psychology. SMART goals are recommended in areas like human resource management, leadership and much more. Similar to other subject areas, SMART goals for Meadows are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound ( Meadows, 2015, p.20). in another instance, he refers to positive-self-talk, a psychological concept, in simple terms. He explains how an individual should tell themself to grow from their mistakes or affirm that these mistakes made them a better person ( Meadows, 2015, p.87). The author ensures to make realistic and cautious promises. It is especially evident in his explanation of the 21-day blueprint where he gives steps for one to follow in order to achieve self-discipline.

He lists an activity or concept that one can adhere to in improving self-discipline. Whatever he recommends is something that one can easily follow through and achieve results when expected. The book does not have propositions that would be hard to follow through. He needs his readers to see results and improvements in their self-discipline and ensures to recommend concepts they can easily work through. The author, Martin Meadows is a current bestselling Wall Street Journal development author who focuses on areas such as transformative power and self-discipline to help his readers achieve success. As a bestselling author in his discipline, Meadows is well-equipped to develop knowledge in the area of self-discipline. He further engages in some of the concepts and activities he recommends to his readers and this ensures that aspects of the knowledge he passes along are achievable in reality. These aspects of his life well-support his recommendations in the book. 

Reviews on the book from Amazon indicate how readers appreciate his content and his style of delivery. One individual identifies the book as an excellent guide comprising of both scientific and non-scientific information that works. Another person appreciates his excellent language and lack of grammatical errors. He recognizes that the book is perfectly edited and captivating. Another reader recognizes that the author offers his readers concepts that are verifiable, which he, Meadows, has tried and confirm to work. they believe the book is well-summarized after every chapter and written in an easy-to-follow manner. A different reader recommends the book to any person who has issues with self-discipline. They believe that it is a useful for those who would like to push their limits. 

The book provides detailed and explicit directions on how people can achieve self-discipline and identify how far they can push their limits. This is evident in the 21-day blueprint where he provides a concept one needs to abide by each day. For instance, on day 15, he recommends for the individual to eat better and count calories ( Meadows, 2015, p. 76). He believes that healthy eating habits make one more productive. As Caraher et al. (2017) recommend, healthy eating habits increase the production of employees in the workplace. It is evident that even as Meadows recommends healthy eating habits for increased productivity, his opinions are supported by studies that have studied these concepts. Meadows discusses what healthy eating habits are and those that may not be viewed as healthy. He ensures to mention how these habits contribute to one’s health and productivity. On day 17, Meadows recommends that his readers forgive those who have wronged them. He identifies that taking the step to forgive shows that the individual is in-charge of their life and this would be easy for them to create change. As Norman (2017) recognizes, engaging in forgiveness is an indication of personal strength and will improve one’s well-being, longevity and physical health outcomes. Meadows ensures to explain the concept of forgiveness and how it can be achieved successfully. He further discusses the benefits that come with forgiveness. 

I would strongly recommend the book to a reader. I have gone through it and find the author’s propositions as easy to follow through. They are practical concepts that can help improve one’s overall well-being. Further, other readers find the book worth reading. I would use the book’s advice especially following through with its 21-day blueprint. I agree with the daily concepts and would easily adhere to them. I believe the book did not connect these concepts well with self-discipline. From the title, self-discipline needs to be a central idea in the book and it needs to be discussed throughout. However, the author discusses it a lot in the first sections and the concept slowly fades as the book progresses.
