Inquiry strategies
How can I make the students read all that time?
Reading is an art and perfecting any art is by practising. When a student reads frequently, the reading levels will go up. Making the student to read more frequently will make the student understsand that reading connects to learning and expose them to many texts and words. Creating a comprehensive reading sessions and organizing the students to read one after another simultaneously and giving the portions of the passage in the book to read loudly can be used by the teacher to ensure that the students have sufficient read time (Metzler, 2017). Reading should not only be limited to class room, even when the students are home adults should supervise them and helping them to read. How can reading out loud help the students?
Some student who struggle to read will learn from hearing their colleagues reading. Incorporating reading sessions in class will help students in vocabulary grasping and also identifies a good readers traits. This will help in identifying reading problems and correcting them. Reading out loud to students will also improve their reading levels because they will be able to hear out the way the teacher pronounce words and try to do the same when it comes to their time to read ( Klingner, Vaughn & Boardman, 2015) . Hearing others read will also help in correction of the students who have the same reading difficulties.
Who is reading same section of book again and again help in improving reading levels?
For a student to advance in reading, it does not have to mean that they should only read through books from chapters to the next. Reading the same section repeatedly will help the student to become confident by clearing confusion and grasping the vocabulary more. Reading again and again can also help the student realize mistakes they might have omitted the first time ( Adler & Van Doren, 2014) . Reading again and again make the words be like a song to the students. This will enable them pronounce words better and the words will engrave well in the students mind helping them improving reading levels.
Students might find reading not to be as fun as it is suppose to be because they are reading the wrong book which is not appropriate for his or hers level. When a student says that reading is boring he or she is probably reading the wrong book and should change to something interesting. Reading an appropriate book repeatedly will assist the leaner to also develop a sense of confidence especially when reading it to the other fellow students because he or she knows that the pronunciation of words are correct.
I believe that reading out loud, reading a book repeatedly and developing a reading culture is by far very important to the improvement of students reading levels. The choices of books should also capture the interests of the students.
