Interpersonal relationship refers to the mutual bond between two or more individuals that share common goals and interests. Interpersonal relationships call for not only developing but also maintaining effective relationships with other people and relating well with persons from diverse backgrounds ( Interpersonal Relations , 2016). Initially, I had the misplaced perspective that it is just impossible to relate with some people, from certain parts of the world. However, having learned about interpersonal relationships, I now realize that most people are actually not hostile. As long as one is ready and willing to respect other people’s backgrounds, and shows concern and politeness, it becomes pretty easy to get along with others.
Empathy refers to a person’s ability to step into another’s shoes, with the aim of understanding their perspectives and feelings, and to use the same as a guide to their actions (Kzrnaric, 2012). With the understanding that all people are different and need a show of kindness from others, it is easier for me to develop empathy towards them. The first step for me is to show concern for what someone may be dealing with, and then talking to them in a kind way. This way, the person begins to trust me and a bond forms between us.

Sometimes stressful events tend to wear me down. I have learned that, it is imperative to interact with other people and form relationships with them. Through such relationships, I can engage in group activities that serve to offload some of the stress that occasionally builds up in my mind. Going into the future, I would maintain such relationships for the purpose of dissipating stress and maintaining a peaceful life.
