The number of older adults is increasing rapidly globally; hence; they require a lot of attention, assistance, and health care. Besides, their cognitive and physical functioning is impaired and cannot carry out the daily routine activities. It has been challenging to determine the age when “old age” starts, but most countries place it from the age of 80 and others 70. The loneliness that the older adults go through is much, especially after their children get married, it becomes severe and can torture them psychologically if they are not supported. The mortality rate is high with older people because their immunity becomes low; therefore, they are affected by any disease easily. However, most of the European countries, America, and China have ensured that the old are taken care of by providing them with the necessary support. The care provided to them includes proper medical care, food, and engaging them hence, enjoying life in their age to more than 100 years compared to most of the African countries (Courtin & Martin, 2017).
Living old does not mean the end of life, but it is a stage in life where most older people give pieces of advice to their children and grandchildren by spending time together. Even though old age comes with varied challenges, there are positive aspects that the children can support them (Courtin & Martin 2017). They should ensure they have proper shelter, food, medical care, exercise, and making the busy and engaged to avoid stress and depression.

The older people are living for long because of the family and government support, unlike in the past, when old age was associated with desperation, chronic illnesses, and physical activities decline. Most people believe that taking care of the former leads to more blessings that have led to many caregivers who provide shelter, food, counselling, and healthcare (Courtin & Martin, 2017). The immense care given to the old has given hope that has promoted families coming together to attend to their aged parents with some living with their grandchildren who, in turn, support them in their studies and investments and vice versa. Furthermore, pension schemes in most countries have been enhanced to cater for the older adults to promote decent living to those who cannot afford to provide for themselves due to the existing economic conditions.
