I believe that motivation is a key element in leadership. It is easier to lead people who are convinced that your idea is correct and that they are safe in following you unlike a situation of leading dispirited people following someone without a vision. Committed followers ease the leaders work in ensuring that a given project is completed with minimal challenges. However, managers become successful leaders when they adopt appropriate motivational skills to drive the team (Kroth & Kroth, 2007). In my case, I will involve my team in believing that they are the best and that each has a special contribution as a member of the team. I will do this by recognizing every unique effort that they give to the team. The members will brainstorm ways of improving the team, and their views will be incorporated into the decision-making process. I will also ensure that every member of my team is respected as they try to find an opportunity to express or exercise their talents and skills. As a leader, I do not intend to fight to be a ruler position. Dictatorial approaches are divisive and unhealthy for the growth of the team.
However, my path to success is full of challenges. For example, I expect to encounter some lack of self-esteem among my team members. Not everyone is equal, and I accept that some people do not believe in themselves. This hampers their ability to believe in a change, and the power of their contribution to the process and a self-serving leadership enhances this (Braun, Kark & Wisse, 2018). Moreover, I will not establish a cohesive team without challenges. I should be prepared to resolve issues in the norming and storming stages of team development before I can be satisfied with having a reliable team. With proper motivation, I can resolve such issues with ease.

In conclusion, I intend to find the best in my team and encourage each member to focus on that good to develop the team in my leadership role. Regardless of their position, their contribution will be appreciated and rewarded accordingly. Therefore, appreciating and recognizing the efforts of others is essential in establishing motivated team members.
