Common Reasons Why Employees Join Unions 

The most common reason that makes employee to join unions is economic. Unions enable employee to have a collective bargain when it comes to the fight for higher wages, improved working conditions, and increased reasons (Budd, 2017). Secondly, employees join unions to ensure job security. Unions give employees that their jobs will exist in the future and they will be safeguarded against unjust treatment. The last key reason for joining union is centered on social factors. For instance, joining unions gives minorities the platform to advocate for their equal treatment at the workplace. 

Union Prevention Strategies 

The first strategy is fostering an issue-free work environment. Keeping the objective of an issue-free work setting across all labor and human resource functions will help to determine the way a company approaches policies centered on employee benefits and work conditions (Budd, 2017). The second strategy is to encourage worker participation and discussing this participation. This approach means the whole workforce is encouraged to state their opinions, and that the management responds to these queries. By motivating the participation of employees, the company will instill confidence that it is doing the correct thing.

Value of Employee Assistance Programs 

Employee assistance programs (EAPs) are developed to match an employee’s financial and social needs. The benefits include referrals or counseling to address a worker’s or family member’s problems with finance, mental health, legal, divorce, substance abuse, and legal issues ( Sonnenstuhl & Trice, 2018) . The benefits are not restricted to addressing matters that have already surfaced as EAPs also facilitate preventative services. Based on this description, EAPs enable employers to address the diverse needs of employees to keep them satisfied and motivated.
