One cannot but encounter the fact that family plays a substantial role in the lives of children, since, as a rule, it occurs as an institution that helps them get adapted to the 21 st century hash reality. In accordance with numerous definitions, it becomes apparent that family itself emerges to be “...crucial for continuum and future of society.” (Usakli, 2013, p. 267) In other words, it strengthens the capacity of parents to function in the most appropriate way, which would enable children to integrate in the society and take advantage of all available sources, respectively. Contemplating upon the universality of families, one should be conscious that there are certain factors affecting children. To be precise, it is worth saying that many consider divorce occurrence as the reason why children pass through the challenges of sticking to new life situations; as a result, children in two-parent households have greater emotional, social and behavioural skills than children in single-parent households.

Surely, one cannot help but become aware that being raised by both parents increases the chances to develop a distinct personality. One has to know that two-parent families usually allow children to get more attention and feel themselves secure. In addition, it is important to indicate that two-parent households are likely to influence children in the way that they grow into emotionally stable human beings. Despite the fact that single-parent families occur as one “...of the most widely spread realities in modern societies.” (Groza & Ragland, 2016, p. 153), one should vividly see its mostly negative outcomes for children.

Considering all the complexity of family ties, one has to take into account the fact that both parents are likely to have a more positive social impact on a child’s development. The focus here lies in arguing that two-parent households can be characterized by contributing to a child’s ability to set life goals. On the other hand, children raised in single-parent families often come into collision with the lack of self-confidence. Additionally, one should know that these children are more likely to suffer from some severe health problems and become reluctant to interact with their friends.

On the whole, it appears to be certain that the U.S. society should take a raft of measures, which would somehow reduce divorce rates and promote stable two-parent families. Among the obvious disadvantages that single-parent households imply, it is important to make an emphasis on emotional outbursts among children; furthermore, there is a high probability that divorces will lead to serious lapses in children’s concentration; loneliness occurs as another problem that children raised in such families often collide with (Cooney et al., 1986). The last but not the least, being raised in single-parent families means that you will most likely be angry at someone of parents for breaking up the family. To sum up, one should draw a particular attention to the problems facing children in single-parent families; indisputably, it is high time to eventually understand numerous detrimental effects that single parents can lead and reconsider the attitude towards marriage, respectively.
