Procrastination among college student is one of the most widely covered psychological issues in the recent past. At the heart of these debates is the role of technology-based distractions that have continued to affect the way students perceive learning. Social media platforms such as youtube, Facebook and Twitter have preoccupied the time of learners thereby affecting the concentration level of their classwork. In the article, “Acceptance and Commitment Training: A Brief Intervention to Reduce Procrastination among College Students” by Scent and Boes conducts an in-depth study on the various interventional strategies to help reduce the behavioral procrastination patterns among college students. On this note, this essay will summarize the key findings of the article to identify the proposals that the authors propose. In essence, determine the various strategic interventions that learners may incorporate to overcome the psychological syndrome. It has been recognized as one of the main inhibitors to university success. 

To begin with, the authors identify the ways that these dilatory behavioral patterns develop in an individual. They cite over-consumption of social media as one of the significant causal agents for the disorder. The authors proposed acceptance as the beginning of the journey towards finding a lasting solution to the problem. They cite the relational flame theory as one of the critical starting points of healing. The theory outlines that learners must learn to accept they have the disorder and incorporate such strategies that increase their functionality. Most student desire to avoid the unpleasantness and thereby choose to engage in fun activities such as social media.

The article proposes that the students avoid maladaptive behavior to avoid the triggers of procrastination, and instead engage in productive behavior that stimulates cognitive stimulation of the brain. In brief, it identifies three main stages for recovery that begins with acceptance and diffusion. After that, a learner should be highly aware of the self-context to avoid the detractors. Finally, the learner becomes empowered to take committed action into a future devoid of procrastination and its negative impacts.
