Most companies are using social media platform to find suitable employees for their firms and companies. Statistics shows that 94 percent of companies planned to use social media in the hiring process, and about 78 percent of companies have successfully hired the candidates they found through social media outlets. The reason why social media recruiting is gaining prominences is because most adults of working age have at least some access to or participation in social media networks ( Jue, Marr & Kassotakis, 2010) . The job seekers are expected to populate their social media accounts with the keywords associated with their job in order to be exceptionally easy to locate. The most popular sites include Facebook and LinkedIn and even Twitter. These sites connect millions of people around the world. As a result, they appear to be the best ways in which companies can reach their target employees. Use of social media is associated with both advantages and disadvantages.

The main advantage of social media recruitment is that human resource manager can get vast numbers of potential applicants. This means that social media can be the best way of locating and contacting potential recruits. In addition, the chances of getting the best candidate is high. It is also high yielding because tweet can reach many people within shortest time. Social media recruiting also help unearth great candidates. Social media is also less costly to the job seekers. The job seekers does not need to travel looking for job. LinkedIn profiles, for example, give a useful insight into what people actually work on in different roles. Such social media platform offers a great place to start career research. Candidates can also find out as much as they can about their target companies. This is because the company’s information in social media is far broader than what is offered in annual reports.

Despite the fact that social media recruiting has several advantages, it also has a number of disadvantages. One of the disadvantage is that some people may fake their social media profiles. This may result in recruiting of wrong person who do not have necessary skills and knowledge. Another disadvantage is that most candidates may not know what is out there. They may not have a good level of information about what jobs are available and what’s actually involved in the day-to-day of different roles. Lack of knowledge may prevent job seekers from finding suitable career.
