Playing basketball is a full body workout. Basketball may be a health activity, one which increases strength, stamina as well as coordination while at the same time promoting teamwork. However, similar to any other sport, basketball has its drawbacks. It is common for players to get injured in high-impact sports like basketball, as the players could stretch their muscular-skeletal system, in comparison to low-impact exercises like walking and swimming ( Wishhart, 2011 ). As a result of the net’s height, basketball as well puts short players at a disadvantage to players who are taller.

However, Injuries come as part of the game. Injuries which athletes generate from sudden force are called traumatic injuries, and could comprise jamming fingers against a basketball or muscle tearing. Jammed fingers differ in their severity. The injury could include tenderness and swelling, or the ligaments connecting the bone muscles ripping ( Wishhart, 2011 ). Jammed fingers could require icing and tapping to a splint or in serious incidences, x-rayed and treated by a doctor. Players can minimize the muscle pulls impact and tears through stretching as well as warming before the game.

Another form of injury is referred to as overuse it and lose it. Overuse injuries are as a result of repetitive activities in a single body area. Jumper’s knee or patellar tendinitis is a prevalent overuse injury in this sport. This condition is triggered by an injury or inflammation of the patellar tendon, the tissue which joins the kneecap and the shin bone. When a player plays on a knee that is injured, they could worsen the condition with time and could need surgery. Ducking, dodging, jumping and running, basketball needs a lot of rapid movements. The most common injury of basketball is spraining an ankle. When a player sprains ankles regularly, it could lead to a buildup of scar tissue which limits ankle motion, resulting in stress in hips, knees and also the lower back (Wishhart, 2011). Players ought to avoid playing on sprained ankles, even when the sprain is minor, and observe the physician’s recommended treatment.

Basketball is a sport that's competitive and makes you work. This form of exercise is beneficial to the entire body, it enhances ones speed, agility and power. Also, plyometric exercises are of health benefit to the neurological elements of the body, which results in improvement of the overall stamina, health and strength. These forms of exercise could led to increased risk of getting injuries, and thus one must ensure that the have the flexibility and physical strength necessary for completing this routine activity (Better Health Channel, 2013). Technique is of great important, thus one could consider having a trainer for helping in ensuring that they are physically ready for this type of sport as well as ensure their technique is within a secure range to aid in keeping them out of being injured. Playing basketball is really good conditioning for the body because it helps burn calories, keeps you in shape, and good for the heart.

Basketball is a popular world sport that involves fast body movements when shooting, dribbling, defending, and re-bouncing and can be a great body workout with numerous benefits. Even though basketball is fun there it has some challenges to it. Injuries do happened to occur the most popular ones is Achilles tendonitis, knee tendonitis, ankle sprains, muscle strains, ACL tears, finger injuries, severe disease, and Osgood-Schlatter disease. Getting a workout is good for the body. Playing basketball is a full body workout. Basketball entails so much starting and stopping. Although not known as an aerobic game, basketball is still a good workout which could assist individuals in burning calories (players could burn between 630 and 750 calories in per hour when they play basketball), building strength, enhancing coordination and balance, developing self-discipline and concentration, and building up muscles (Better Health Channel, 2013).

As stated by Kretchmar (2007), most people play basketball since it is fun and effective form of exercise. Basketball boosts physical fitness – the fast-paced, intense activity of the usual basketball sport concurrently improves hand-eye coordination, speed and cardiac coordination. Similarly, playing basketball is an effective means of controlling body weight. Playing basketball as well could offer stress relief. If you play a casual sport with other people, the competition and camaraderie will be distract you from your day-to-day stress. Any person who plays basketball regularly may expect to experience a wide array of benefits. Basketball is a great way for training various body systems. Practicing skills such as free throw shooting, jump shooting and rebounding is practically useful for training a player’s hand-eye coordination. Another basketball skill, dribbling, needs a finer level of coordination.

Also, basketball offers an outstanding complete-body workout and could aid you in developing valuable, lean muscle. Basketball needs much of jumping and running, it is as well exceptional for increasing and coordinating groin and leg muscles. The finer movements which you perform in basketball, like shooting and dribbling, help to strengthen arms, hand muscles and wrist flexors (Better Health Channel, 2013). Other benefits of basketball include helping one make new networks and seeing them habitually impart to you about becoming a noble team player. Besides, basketball is played by individuals of all abilities and ages and it is played all year round since it is normally an indoor sport. It is as well a fun game which children of all ages and levels could enjoy. Basketball could also be enjoyed with a minimum of two players.

Studies on the mental elements of basketball have shown that athletes should create high attentional control to ensure that they accurately and quickly process actions taking place on the court and also make real judgments with the ball and on defense ( Fogle, 2014). Attentional control is one’s capacity to direct their concentrate in a preferred direction – in basketball, one should train themselves to continuously observe their opponents and co-players and assess what action option to take in responding to their activities.

Nevertheless, one must be aware of the potential health risks which could be brought out by the basketball practice so as to prevent them. Insufficient planning could interfere negatively with the physical development of players – for example, a training approach based on lifting weights as a way of developing strength could be harmful to basketball players (Better Health Channel, 2013). Moreover, insufficient planning could result in chronic or major injuries which in some instances could impact the young players’ physical growth. If the activity is very discouraging or stressful, it is very possible that the players could give up on the basketball practice, therefore being unable to take advantage of the benefits related to this sport. So, it would be as well more unlikely that the players combine the habit of performing physical exercise.

For the players to enhance their performance and also control their injuries’ pain, the players may end up taking doping substances, therefore adversely damaging their health. This behavior may lead to increased addiction to drugs because of the high vulnerability of the young players (Better Health Channel, 2013). Thus, playing basketball alone is not a guarantee of potential health benefits which could be the sport’s practice. Only when done appropriately, guided by competent coaches, would basketball produce positive impacts. However, a lack of control on the coach’s part could increase the threat of negative impacts.

Basketball could give you multiple ways of meeting new persons. Through playing the game, it could increase one’s confidence, due to the support one gets from the teammates. Essentially, taking part in sports offers chances to learn teamwork. Observing the rules of the game and overcoming adversity could help young players acquire qualities of good sportsmanship as well as personal responsibility. Good organizational skills and time management skills should be developed to attain the athletic success. Such benefits transfer to daily situations which provide social skills which allow the players to be successful in the real world (Mc Laughlin, 2008) . A sports team is not able to be successful without a shared effort to attain positive outcomes. Good teamwork needs accountability, coordination, and cooperation of all team members (Rosario, 2017). The most important social benefit of playing basketball and any other sport is all the new relationships and friendships one is able to make. It is highly likely that a player will make many friends because their passion is directed towards the same sport. Thus, players will always have something to discuss in terms of their passion for the sport.

In conclusion, if you lack in social skills playing basketball brings people together and creates bonds and friendships. Basketball as a team sport provides various social benefits. It is a great way of meeting new friends and seeing them regularly. Besides, the sport teaches the players how to become good sportsmen and could be practiced with a few friends. This ensures that people can bond and build relationships through playing the sport. Basketball stresses on social interaction and teamwork among the players and communication to make the game successful. Through taking part in the sport, players can develop social skills in sporting. They learn the value of working as a team, communicating with teammates, and accepting the responsibility while playing the team sport.
