According to many people, a true friend is supportive, encouraging, tolerates the other person’s shortcomings, unconditionally accepts and cares for the other no matter the situation. As such, he/she thinks of the other as a good egg even though they know that one is slightly cracked. Here, unconditional acceptance comes into play. The Japanese use the word “kizuna” to refer to bonds or connections present between people (Bacon and Hobson 79). Friendships are known to last if they endure the good, bad, and the ugly. Therefore, a best friend should be able to bring out the best in you. A true friend must be willing to walk through life together, be ready to share in joys and sorrows, and be consistent.

A true friend is one considered to share the same elements of loyalty, love, trust, and affection. By walking through life together as true friends, it entails a situation where one is ready to bear witness to whatever happens in your life. As such, he or she should be ready to testify for you even in front of any given multitude of your innocence even if you are the guilty party. In other words, such a person should be one that you can rely on when you are in need. As such, it is vital for true friends to have some shared interests. It is only by sharing interests that their “kizuna” becomes stronger. The reason for this is because they are presented with the chance of delighting in things they can both draw pleasure from and tends to take place more often. Currently, the society we live in has very few true friends and thus, many people find comforting familiarity in old friends. In real sense, these are true friends because they never let their guard down and are who they truly are without shame, fear, or guilt. When one comes across such individuals, they are faithful friends and thus, need to be treasured at all times.

True friends are those who share in one’s joys and sorrows. Our lives have inevitable twists and turns, but a true friend should be one who walks with you down the long and winding road without complaining. Such sacrifices are only made by a true friend because the road is a representation of a journey made sweeter and meaningful through sharing and caring. In most instances, the one true friend will be present in your life in the rites of passage, for example, during your marriage, the birth of your children, and even in times of deaths of people close to you. It could also be other important milestones and events, where true friends will want to mark and honor together.

Consistency in friendship is one characteristic that is hard to get, but in true friendships, this is not hard to detect. It implies that an individual who is a true friend is one who does not recognize your friendship only in times when they are seeking something from you. Rather, they are an all-round individual and stick to their friend despite the prevailing circumstances. The society of today has shown many false friends in the midst of given trials and tribulations because they turn their backs when something is not in their odds. As such, brings out their true colors with regard to the friendship at hand. Thus, it is important for true friends to be consistent with their loyalty and love because it all culminates down to what they bring to the friendship, at the end of the day. A true friend invests his or her time, money, and effort to the friendship and hence, their commitment is always strengthened. In precarious situations, a true friend always gives a helping hand by finding solutions that are lasting and long-term. In most instances, a true friend is going through the same challenges and is what people refer to as going through the same rollercoaster of emotions.

In conclusion, in today’s society, a true friend is a treasure to be cherished at all times because they are rare to find. We all have different personality styles, which are similar to the different needs and desires we need in friendships. Therefore, a true friend may disappoint at some point but what matters most is how they respond to one’s feelings. Moreover, the patterns they establish are important. A true friend is known to be loyal thus, have concern and respect for the thoughts and emotions of the other when not in agreement. Secondly, a true friend will ensure that he or she marks the important events and milestones in your life beside you and with you; fighting and laughing together. Lastly, a true friend remains consistent with regard to their stand on the friendship at hand. Irrespective of the circumstance, they remain loyal and are true to the friendship shared.
