I started making the concept map by looking at the main concepts and ideas that I learned this week. I understood the concepts in the book, but the concept map made it easier to understand how they are connected to each other. I had to make several revisions to the concept map as I discovered how theories and ideas were connected. For instance, I learned that the lifespan perspective correlates with the theories on learning. I also learned how the nature vs. nurture controversy relates with the lifespan perspective. In particular, the multi-cultural, multi-dimensional, and multi-disciplinary approaches are covered under ‘nature.’ I now have a more solid understanding of how humans develop- both mentally and physically. Mental and physical development, as I have come to understand, go hand in hand in determining how a person develops (Berger, 2017). By creating the concept map, I have learned how people learn and grow and thrive. I have also learned why some people have developmental problems that they carry with them through adulthood and this is a result of problems with Erikson’s or Freud’s developmental stages (Berger, 2017). I am aware that there are many theories to explain these phenomena, but I want to learn more about abnormal development because it interests me, especially after I created the concept map. Although I have learned much from creating a concept map, I have a few questions:
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
1. What about individuals with psychiatric illnesses? How is their development different from people without such illnesses?
2. How does Freud’s theory reinforce Erikson’s life stages?
3. I understand that the behaviorism concepts, especially classical conditioning, applies to animals as well. However, I would like to know to what extent the operant and social learning conditioning affects animals. Is it to the same degree as humans?
