Some courses merely amount to getting more information but the human relations course literally transformed me, creating a better person, more so from a business perspective. For the avoidance of doubt, however, the transformation was also accompanied by a lot of learning and getting to understand how people behave when they have been put together. I also developed a sense of awareness that established a heightened perception of what is happening around me and how well to react to it. It is my belief that as and when I am placed in a business environment, I will be an asset not a liability due to what I now know about human relations and hopefully, it will propel me to a position of leadership where I can also influence others.
Among the critical lessons learned in the instant course relate to communication from a business environment where I learned that communication is a package. This package contains the message, how the message is communicated, non-verbal communication and the relationship between the parties that are communicating. For example, even the best message can backfire if told in the wrong way to a customer. Similarly, bad news delivered tactfully can be taken positively. Good communication will thus be an invaluable asset for me in business.

The second critical area of change regards to conflict resolution in the workplace, more so between colleagues. I came to learn that conflict can arise even when there are no ill-intentions between parties, hence confrontations and belligerence should be avoided at all costs. I have come to learn that every conflict has a hatchet and an issue. The hatchet is the acrimony and the issue is the cause of the acrimony. I have even taken time to look at past conflicts in my life and by separating the hatchet from the issue realized that they were actually mainly minuscule. The secret to interpersonal conflict resolution, as I have come to learn is to avoid the hatchet and focus on the issue. Active or passive fighting has wasted so much of my time and energy before but learning conflict resolution has set me free. This tool will also be invaluable for me and I look forward to solving conflicts between my followers when I eventually become a leader in a business environment.
Supplementary to the two critical areas of learning and change above is the issue of empathy which is critical in both life and commerce. Based on the lessons learned in the course, I consider empathy to be having an understanding and appreciation of the fact that we are all only human. Just like I sometimes have bad days, other people have bad days too and just as I sometimes make mistakes, other people do. Empathy for me means that I will not seek to hold others to a standard that I cannot hold myself. For example, my colleagues are only humans and can make mistakes or have weaknesses. If I think of them as machines, I will focus more on blame than on solving the problem hence creating a hostile working environment. Learning empathy has taught me to always imagine myself in the shoes of others hence exponentially improved my formal and informal interpersonal relationship.
Human relations is to entrepreneurship what the English language is to education. There are so many things to learn and do in the workplace but they all involve other human beings hence being able to relate with them properly is paramount. It is in the same way that there are many courses to be studied in school but having an understanding of the English language is critical for any learning to be possible. Among the three most important and transformative lessons that I have learned regarding human relations are communication, conflict resolution, and empathy all of which are closely related. Learning the above has transformed me and enhanced my readiness for excellence in entrepreneurship.
