While the United States has been seen as land with lucrative opportunities for immigrants, the U.S. natives have argued that the immigrants are lowering the wages of the already employed workers and are not integrating into the culture of the U.S. society (Kramer, 2014). Whereas the illegal low skilled immigrants are creating a heart trending challenge, this paper argues that skilled immigrants largely contribute to the economy of the United States and thus the federal governments should put in place sensible immigration policies which can distinguish illegal immigration from skilled immigration (Flannery, 2014). Further, the article argues that if the federal government can constructively engage in immigration reform then immigration would increase productivity which would subsequently increase the economy.

The high skilled immigrants carry out important tasks and enhance the productivity of the American labor force. The skilled immigrants also enable the productivity of agricultural land which would otherwise not be profitable if there were no immigrants. The federal governments should, therefore, promote growth in several sectors including agriculture, manufacturing and other sectors which require immigration labor (Flannery, 2014). Further, immigrants reduce service costs, therefore, promoting the purchasing ability of U.S. consumers. The effect of the low skilled immigration on the budget of the federal government is minimal, even though some local and state governments undergo certain fiscal burden.

Lastly, efforts to promote the enforcement of the immigration laws should not exacerbate the overall social cost of illegal immigration by arresting the immigrants who degrade the social construction of civil liberties. This makes the immigrant community be vulnerable and reduce the willingness of the immigrants to cooperate with the police (Forbes, 2013). Rather, reducing illegal immigration involves compelling the companies and organizations to check documents of the people they are hiring and imposing huge fines for employers who violate the rules of employment and put up schemes that can help to police the efforts.
