Social media as the word suggests represents a group of people who join in one platform and try to connect. Social media has more than 10 billion people almost the entire world because the numbers remaining are negligible. Through this connection, people try to find or exchange views on different issues of life and also learn from one another. Though social media as well, has its fair share of disadvantages which affects not only society but also individuals, especially when it is misused by the potential users. Despite of all the above mentioned criteria about the social media, it will still remain to be remarkably the best option of developing a nation not to forget an individual.

Benefits of which the social media has impacted into the society are too much, to the extent that the society cannot function without it. Social media has helped to unite people together especially those who come from one family, but they live in different geographical places. It has helped them ensuring they have a look at each other daily and also wishing one another goodnight on a daily basis. This is to say it has helped in bringing people close together, which is why we say, the world has turned up to be a small global village, where someone can talk to anyone in any part of the world around (Hudson & Thai, 2013). Social media has played a critical role in making life happier and easier for everyone of us. There is nothing sweet than seeing our families every day, despite of the distance that location have created against us. It makes people feel that they are actually not alone in this world or the part of the world that they may be in. It unites people enough, it connects countries, continents, regions, villages, location and so on.

Another crucial factor that social media platform such as face book and twitter has played is to create employment or rather job opportunities in wider scale of the earth. Social media platforms have with it a variety of job displays as well as advertisements, which helps people to acquire or rather access them easily. The world as we know today has millions of opportunities all over in a wider view point. So the only reliable way for us as human beings to get sufficient access to those opportunities is only to use the social media way. These platforms also help companies to access market of goods and services in many parts of the world. Such as electronic company is able to display its products online and people can be able to access them and also pay for them if they are satisfied by the product. It helps people to buy what they see but not what they imagine to be. By creating and opening market to everyone as well as offering employment position, social media will remain to be the only way out of poverty and economic failure, because it promotes cohesive development so to speak.

Social media has also created an important platform of accessing advice and help especially in times of difficulties. There are a lot of motivating thoughts around the internet that touches viewers either directly or indirectly. It also uplifts their spirit and makes them great again in the spirits as well as in their mentality. Many people who have attempted to commit suicide have been saved by the social media and encouraged to live a bit longer. Sometimes life becomes meaningless when you do not find a reason to live, but when people share their experiences about life and how they managed to encounter it all, it gives someone watching a good reason to persist no matter what happens as Long as you know the higher power is in control. Social media has helped in educating people of how to deal with stress as well as overcoming challenges of life. Like recently the issue of misusing of drugs in Nigeria was exposed through social media which forced the government to ban the production of Opioids cough syrup that was misused in the black-market. Hence social media will always remain to be educative and informative to all people in the society.

On the contrary of things despite all the glory that social media has been granted it also the platform of moral decadence in the society. Social media has made people to neglect their culture and start to imitate other western culture which is seen all over the social media platforms. Students have started to dress like prostitutes while going to school or even at home all in the name of fashion and trends (Erdogmus & Cicek, 2012). Parents have lost sight and control of their children because of social media. Nowadays there is no enough social impact in the society that we are living in because everyone is busy trying to find out what is new or trending in the social media. Children have decided to exploit their world in social media platforms, this has impacted badly in their school performance. Also school strikes have immensely increase over the recent past, because they try to imitate other people someone, either from a movie or a play, it is so absurd ( Distaso, McCorkindale & Wright, 2011). Nowadays we are guided by the trending values on social media but not the society values. It will be wise if we will limit the social media access to our children, or discourage them from using those sites which might not help them at all.

Another mess of the social media towards an individual or society is the fact that it can even lead to death of their users. This happens especially when children tries to copy styles displayed online, such as martial arts, of which sometimes could result into serious accidents that can even cause death, the worse of all. Those seen in the media displaying their arts is not a day thing that they have just woke up one morning and start doing it but it is a long process thing, more that even five years or so ( O’keefe & Clarke-Pearson, 2011). So, it is not proper for anyone to imitate the styles in a span of just one second or so, because it may turn out to be injurious and very fatal to be specific. It is good to face the facts and deal with them so as to prevent future occurrence. Despite social media being heaven sent, it also entails its adds towards generations to come.

Last but not least I want to rest my arguments by saying not all that glitters will always be gold. Despite of social media platforms being the best option to human society, it also comes with its shortfalls that need to be demoted in order for people to remain in good stand. We should always use the social media in a positive mindset so as to impact a positive pressure in an individual as well as society.
