Different views on matters related to obese and overweight people have gotten observed in several societies over the past decades. These distinct opinions have paved the way for stigmatization of such individuals, and this fact has found its way even to those communities that were previously known to embrace the values associated with big-bodied individuals. It should get noted that obesity is an eating disorder and the paper below deals with the condition from a psychological standpoint.
Research on psychological studies regarding obesity has proven that there are a lot of implications of the experiences that obese and overweight people go through (Tremblay, A. 2012). Many interviewed individuals exhibit feelings that relate to their stigmatization, and this, in turn, leads to their loss of self-esteem and self-worth. However, there are other accounts of positivity in such a negative attitude towards obesity. So the question remains, ‘is the spread of negative opinions of overweight and obese individuals a good or wrong thing?’

Previous research on this subject matter indicates that affected individuals have developed complications concerning food. These adverse experiences are all a result of their body stature and the stigma from the society that comes along with it(Wirtz, Van der Pligt, & Doosje, 2015). Other affected individuals, however, believe that the stigma they face has been a helpful tool to them in the sense that it serves as a contributing factor to their behavioral change in matters of food consumption and engaging in exercises (Tremblay, A. 2012). On a subjective viewpoint, obesity is believed to be interconnected with cases of psychological illnesses such as depression. This results in a deteriorated life quality in the long run.
We can only admit that obesity is not such a fun experience as it has a humongous load of detrimental complications which tend to outweigh the positive side of it. Obesity is a largely stigmatized condition. It is true that this stigma may trigger an inevitable behavioral change of the affected individual, but at the cost of their self-esteem, self-worth, and poor mental health. Occasionally, most affected individuals tend to lose morale to change their behavior due to stigma. According to my opinion, therefore, it is a bad thing to stigmatize obese individuals.
