In the current world of immigration and globalization, people must understand and appreciate each other for mutual coexistence; hence comes in the concept of global citizenship. According to Reysen and Katzarska-Miller 2013, global citizenship is "embracing, caring, and awareness cultural diversity while endorsing sustainability and social justice, accompanied by a sense of responsibility to act (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) ." When everyone concentrates on understanding and learning the meaning of global citizenship, society is in a better position to meet and work as one and appreciate different social beliefs and value systems. Most of the innovations are made according to the current world issues; they also influence every individual's life. The word citizenship helps people in becoming better individuals. In this essay, we shall discuss the different aspects of global citizenship (Papastephanou, 2005)

Variances between Globalization and Globalism

Globalism describes a world that has networks of connections between different continents. It tries to understand the interconnections of the current world and explain why they occur by looking for consistent patterns. Conversely, globalization explains the decrease or increase in globalism. It puts focus on the speed or dynamism of the changes and the forces causing them (Papastephanou, 2005)

A Global Citizen and Advanced Technology

The video on globalization shows that global citizenship should be a goal of every individual. With advanced technology, one is likely to meet individuals from another continent or culture (Papastephanou, 2005) . I must embrace global citizenship to be successful because as a global citizen, I am in a better position to understand people around me. Technology is the primary means of communication. It helps one keep in touch with family, business partners, and friends even in long-distance through calls, emails, and text messages. Technology can help one meet their personal, professional, and academic goals. Through internet searches, we can meet like-minded people; learn different cultures that can help us socially. Understanding the believes and norms of an individual makes it easier to interact with people at work and avoiding conflicts. It is my responsibility to identify with people professionally, socially, and at a personal level.

Reasons for Different Definitions of Global Citizenship by Theorist and My Definition

The reason theorists have come up with diverse descriptions of global citizenship is that they draw their depictions from different perspectives and disciplines. These include developmental, political, theological, and educational. For instance, philosophy theorists will focus on ethics and morality, whereas educational theorists' emphasis on global awareness. At the same time, there are those theorists that will focus on the concept as a whole (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) . From the article and the globalization video, I would define global citizenship as the act of being aware of the different cultures, understanding different people, and living in a way that you can exist with everyone without a struggle.

Global Outcomes and their Importance

Intergroup empathy and valuing diversity are the most significant outcomes of a global citizen. Intergroup empathy means connecting and caring about people that come from a different group from yours. In contrast, valuing diversity means appreciating the diverse cultures of the world (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) . With intergroup empathy, when you encounter individuals from different groups in difficulties, you will be open to help them. When you value diversity, you will understand that not all people should have identical beliefs as yours. The two outcomes will allow you to interact with anyone and feel comfortable around them. Even without being a global citizen, one should have environmental sustainability with the obligation to protect one's surroundings. According to ethics, one should help people in need and better the world around them. We can say that the two outcomes are unique to global citizenship.

Events that Show Global Citizenship

The first event will be about intergroup empathy. I am an American citizen. Due to the concept of globalism and globalization, and the interaction with different cultures in my neighborhood, I came to understand the word diversity with a positive connotation. One day, when in a grocery shop, I saw this Chinese girl struggling to explain what she needed from the store. The Chinese girl had trouble expressing herself in English. She had just moved into the neighborhood, and she was taking English classes to start her university studies. Luckily, I took some Chinese classes because I always wanted to travel to China. I helped her buy groceries, exchanged numbers, and became friends. I did not see her as a Chinese girl; I saw her as a fellow American citizen.

In embracing diversity, we have students from different cultures in school. I have tried to learn about their different cultures so that I do not end up offending anyone. For instance, I know Muslim girls do not allow men to give them handshakes, some Indians are vegetarian, and Africa is not one big country but different countries with different cultures.

General Education Courses and they Help One Become A Global Citizen

General education courses help students to become better global citizens. Humanities and Social sciences made me a better global citizen. After going through the lessons, I was able to value diversity and improve my intergroup empathy, which is global citizenship outcomes. In humanities, I learned about culture as acceptable behavior in society while in social sciences, I got a better understanding of human interaction, and why people have different practices.

Conclusion

Conclusively, a global citizen is conscious of the world around them and appreciates the diverse cultures around the world (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) . Globalism explains the interconnection between the different continents, while globalization explains the growth in internationalism (Papastephanou, 2005) . Being a global citizen in the world of advanced technology helps one succeed in different aspects of life. The only way people can correlate is by understanding each other and respecting the differences presented in each culture.
