Students in many colleges, upon their enrolment, are required to take an English composition course. Any professional career path requires writing skills. Taking this Course helps the students learn how to navigate writing expectations that they will encounter while in college. Writing is a requirement for all students throughout the college life, and even in the job market. For example, the students are required to prove their knowledge on tests which involves explaining their opinions and ideas in essays and also organizing information in research papers. An English Composition Course helps students to think critically and express their thoughts in an organized manner. This course can be taken online while working towards a college degree. But though the online course it has many advantages, it has similarly brought along some drawbacks.

On the right side, online course is convenient and flexible. Apart from taking an English composition course, students can find the time to attend their classes and other responsibilities. Online courses will only require them to log onto a computer at their own flexible time. Since students are not obliged to be physically present, the online course plays a significant role to those majoring in other subjects other than English. It reduces the hustles and bustles associated with moving up and down, and from one lecture hall to another, which can be very challenging and stressful. Because it is a stress-free, online English course can improve their performance. Online learning caters for them and less expensive to attend (Brantley, 2016).

Further, online English course provides an opportunity for everyone to learn writing skills. Regardless of age, distance, and work and school responsibilities, anyone can take English composition courses comfortably alongside a college degree simultaneously. More universities should adopt online courses and increase the number of online undergraduate degree programs offered.

On the wrong side, Online courses are only suitable for self-driven students with excellent time management skills. The course is best suited for students who are willing to take charge of their learning, and therefore, it is not suitable for just anyone. Students with some work and time management experiences are more likely to have better grades as compared to those who are just out of high school in an online environment.

Further, online course reduces the physical interaction between lecturers and students. Some professors may provide their emails and phone number for communication but are not available. Students may feel disconnected with the professors and the rest of the classroom since there is no face to face interaction. As a result, many students may feel withdrawn from the course.

Online learning has many benefits as well as drawbacks, though it has helped transform the education industry. Students can take their course from anywhere at any time. No matter what people may say about it, online learning will take its own course. However, not all courses need to be taken online. For instance, when learning about nonverbal communication, online learning may not prove to be the best.
