On 14 th January 1963 marked the inauguration of Governor George Wallace as the governor of Alabama. Governor Wallace was a political icon in the lives of the Alabamians. Wallace had secured his office for four consecutive terms as the governor. He was famous for his politics on racism and segregations which seemed to have won the hearts of the Alabamians. During this remarkable event, Governor Wallace delivered a speech that addressed issues related to the legitimacy of law both natural and positive, and matters related to segregation.
In his speech, Governor Wallace addressed the issue related to positive laws and natural laws. Positive laws are the laws made by humans to help govern the relationship between one individual and another and running of a state. Positive laws are the rights that govern individuals or group of individuals that live together and share a common goal of living in harmony. Natural laws, on the other hand, can be defined as inherent rights from God and are not conferred to the legislative laws. Human thoughts, reasoning, and nature influence natural laws. According to Governor Wallace, God gave humankind liberty and no person holds the right to liberty. He argued that positive laws are created by the government so that the citizens may view the leaders as gods thus turning away from Godly ways. Wallace did not agree that it was permissible for the government to use its power to enforce the positive laws.

In addition to his speech, Governor Wallace addressed matters related to obeying the law. According to Wallace, being obedient to civil rights of the state and the acts of desegregation were ways to deny the white Alabamians freedom. Wallace intellect was arguable that without performance in action then the subject did not have any duty in obeying the law. Wallace made it clear that the more laws the government was creating, the more likely the people were doomed to becoming more of human fearing instead of God-fearing as it is meant to be. Wallace pointed out that there were no government rights that gave freedom to the people.

However, during the same years on August 28 th , Doctor Martin Luther King delivered a speech that had an opposing viewpoint on issues that had been addressed by Governor Wallace.
