As a new parent, giving one’s toddler the right kind of toy is essential in determining their developmental attributes. According to Piaget’s theory, the development of intelligence in toddlers is dependent on the environment that they interact with during their early stages (Rowland, 2012). In this regard, the following schedule advises on the best toys a parent can give their child to enhance their intellectual, physical, biological, and social well-being in the internalization of schemas stage. Determining the type of toy needed for each stage can be challenging. As such, researchers use observation to determine which toys appeal best to specific developmental stages. Piaget also used a similar approach to assess the effects of the immediate environment on the cognitive development of toddlers. However, the observations are done over a long span of time to achieve concise results. Observation should also not interfere with the development of toddlers.

18-24 Months (Internalization of Schemas)

According to Piaget’s theory, toddlers in this stage have learned to use their feet and hands, and have the ability to make correct inferences from the objects in their environment (Rowland, 2012). The ideal toy for toddlers at this age is KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube. Apparently, KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube aids children in vast developmental aspects that are imminent during their growth (Sokol, 2018). The first developmental aspect that the toy assists is cognitive growth. Notably, toddlers have the ability to establish long-term mental representations of the objects and toys that they interact with (Rowland, 2012). In most cases, the cognitive growth is realized when children begin to exemplify a wide range of emotions and moods, which shows that their intellect has developed (Albrecht & Miller, 2001). The creation of words using alphabetical characters on the side of KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube assists toddlers to refine their language (Sokol, 2018). To this end, the toys allow children to refine their language and ultimately enhance their communication with other people.

Moreover, KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube assists children to acquire essential motor skills every time they use the toy in their play (Sokol, 2018). Piaget’s theory thus gives a good illustration of the various developments that can be associated with the tools that children associate with during growth (Rowland, 2012). Apart from cognitive growth, the KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube also allows children to develop gross and fine motor skills, through better grasping and bodily reflexes (Sokol, 2018). The fact that games can be played while seated or while standing gives children the ability to coordinate their eyes and their activity hands efficiently. The bottom line is, in addition to physical development, KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube also gives children biological development, by strengthening their coordination, senses, and reflexes. For example, standing games create the skills to walk effectively without the need for support.

KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube advances social and emotional attributes of toddlers. At this developmental stage, the need for toddlers to interact with others increases due to developed language and intellect. KidKraft Deluxe Activity Cube has musical beads on one side, which can allow children to take turns in games (Sokol, 2018). In the long run, the bond created between toddlers is an incentive for developing good social skills. According to Jean Piaget, several attributes of intelligence develop at this stage, assisting toddlers to interact and communicate (Rowland, 2012).

Conclusion

Toddlers need the correct choice of toys to ensure that their development is good. Wrong toys can hinder the desired development among toddlers. Moreover, each toy assists in giving children different developmental skills in their growth. Jean Piaget's theory justifies the effects of objects like toys to the cognitive development of children. Through observation, researchers can give advice on the best toys that assist toddlers at each stage of their development.
