Study Purpose

The purpose of this study is to establish the behavioral changes in students who use hard drugs in school, and how they relate to people before, during and after using these hard drugs. Several studies have been conducted on how the uses of hard drugs affect the class performance of students. However, few have explored their behavioral changes. Your participation can help the researcher establish the causes in changes in one’s behavior caused by prolonged use of drugs, and whether the changes in the behaviors are considered to be towards the positive or towards negative behaviors as viewed by people around them and society at large.

Description of the Research Study

The study will require about 50 participants to ensure increased chances of the accuracy of the data. The participants will include people who use drugs within the university premises, students being the majority of the participants, and those who don’t. If you decide to participate, you will become a part of the study. You will be required to fill in questionnaires regarding the survey. The questionnaires will be filled in, and the document returned to the researcher for purposes of report writing. The researcher may also conduct interviews of about 20 minutes per session with those who decide to participate in the study. Absolute honesty and openness will be required during the study.

Risks and Benefits

The risks of this study may mostly apply only to those who are using hard drugs. The interviews might lead to the interviewer asking personal questions about their use of drugs, which may cause a considerable amount of discomfort. The participants will be required to make themselves available when called upon for interviews or create time for the same.

Your participation in this study helps researchers understand the reasons behind some people deciding to engage in the use of drugs, and how they behave differently from their norm after using drugs. It benefits society, enables one to understand and accept people and their past behaviors, and also contributes to the science of how drugs affect the brain. The study also helps us understand the mechanics involved in engaging in drug abuse to educate the society.

Confidentiality

I will ensure the confidentiality of the participants by using anonymous names during interviews. Recorded interviews will be deleted or destroyed after the compilation of the report. The questionnaires will be general and will not require mention of specific names. If they require mentioning of individuals, one is allowed to hide the real names of the participants or people in question, and use fake names. The researcher will not disclose the participants who want their identity hidden, even to other participants. Participants will remain anonymous to others.

The results obtained from this study will be published in a research report, publications, and presentations. However, there will be no mentioning of any name in the research. The identities of every participant will be kept secret in the report, presentations, and publications.

Compensation

There will be no compensation for the participants. However, a small token of appreciation will be provided to the participants for taking their time to be involved in the study. The researcher will provide food during the interviews and a small instant monetary appreciation for filling the questionnaires to the participant. Participants who do not reside in the university premises will be provided with allowances for their movements during the research.

Contact Information

If a participant has any questions regarding their participation or any question regarding the research, please contact (student’s name and email address), and they will be answered as soon as possible. If you have questions about your rights as a participant in the research, or if you feel that you may be put at risk in any way, please contact the researcher through the same address.

Disclaimer

Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and the participant may withdraw from participating any time they want to without any penalty. If the participants, especially those using drugs, feel that the questions are getting too personal, they are at liberty to decline to answer. They are also at liberty to later withdraw the responses they are uncomfortable with without any consequences.
