Behavioral, psychological perspective is among the many that can be related to insomnia not only among college students but the entire population as a whole. Sleep is an important aspect of life that has many benefits to individuals and thus highly recommended by health care providers as well as psychologists. College students equally require enough sleep patterns despite the environment that provides more stressors to them that can result and enhance their chances of developing insomnia. Such stressors include transiting problems from home to college as during high school most stay in their homes, increased independence that has made them more vulnerable to drug use and alcohol, changes in new peer groups as well as the need to maintain academic performance and responsibilities among others. The noted stressors thus need to be managed well to help college students avoid the possibility and increased chances of developing acute insomnia that can progress to the chronic level if not timely managed. 

The negative impact is that Insomnia can result to further health care complications that can prove to be fatal if not well addressed. Behavioral psychology theory notes how learning and behavior are determined by stimulus- response relationships. The Behavioral perspective thus may help greatly in understanding the environment and how it has influenced the behavior of students including their sleep patterns. The theory might be used to study and show early symptoms of Insomnia and enable institute immediate measures to help the college students and avoid the problem deteriorating further to chronic stages. The college institutions, hence, can use the behavioral theory to put measures that can counter the stressors in the college environment. The measures can reduce the chances of students developing insomnia and related behaviors by putting up counseling and guiding services for example in their institutions that can provide necessary help to students and enable them to meet their academic and other social objectives with ease.

Summary of research methods used to investigate Insomnia in College Students 

Research is a crucial part of many fields and study that provide evidence and thus positive recommendations on the various aspects that are concerning to the researchers and the public at large. The topic of Insomnia has affected mostly students that have prompted college students and academic institution to be among the leading centers where such studies are conducted. It indicates that it is an important part of the academic world and it impacts most students and therefore the noted increased studies and research in the higher institutions of learning. Both qualitative and quantitative research approaches have been used in many studies that try to explore issues relating to insomnia. A combination of the methods results in the more positive outcome as it reduces chances of failure to capture information that can be omitted by use of one method. A cross-sectional observational study was used by Choueiry et al. (2016) at Saint Joseph University. It entailed the use of four questionnaires that each addressed a specific issue related to Insomnia and how they impact and affect the students as well as how they understand the various subject related to the topic. Professionalism was encouraged such as consent by the participant as well as probability sampling methods that ensured that each participant was given an equal chance to participate in the study. The questionnaire's question was designed that it gave both qualitative and quantitative responses. 

On the other hand, the second research by Taylor et al. Thirdly, it causes depression and makes some forgetful that are not the conducive situation in an academic set up experienced by most college students. Finally, lack of sleep increase chances of impaired judgment that might impact students as well as other people outside of academic institutions negatively. Impaired judgments can Lead to risky behaviors and exposure to dangerous events and hence compromise student’s ability to realize their full potential in life. 

Discussion of controversies related to Insomnia in College Students and ways to overcome the identified controversies

Some incidences are wrongly diagnosed as Insomnia that results from anxiety especially when the mind is stimulated and anxious about something. For example, if somebody is preparing for an interview that is to come in a week’s time, the persons a high likelihood that they would lose their normal sleep patterns that many have also noted to be a natural human behavior and functioning of the mind and the entire body. Controversies also are noted in the diagnosis and preventive care as some recommendations do not work In some people and hence generalizations regarding treatment has at times failed to address the main concern of Insomnia. Countering the controversies would entail performing a thorough analysis in person life and background check to note any anxiety that might have resulted in the loss of sleep. They should monitor the post- anxiety causes events to note whether the person has recovered to normal sleep patterns or the challenge persists before instituting the insomnia treatment. However, the person should help to tackle the anxiety as they await the outcome and analysis. An analysis of a person lifestyle should also be included giving the right diagnosis to increase the possibility of positively address the concern of Insomnia. The person should be consulted in the best choices available that can make them overcome insomnia with ease.
