While education is esteemed to have played an integral role in shaping how the world runs a lot of debate has emerged with many now questioning this narrative. In fact, this is due to the over-commercialization of education with some players now keen on maximizing the available opportunities. This has seen the rise in the number of institutions offering education at an exorbitant price. However, while doing so, a large population is left behind with no hope in sight now that they are unable to access education. On the other hand, despite most governments making it mandatory for public schools to provide affordable education, such institutions are usually underfunded, therefore, can as well find it hard to avail quality education (Baum & McPherson, 2011).

In order to ensure their kids have access to quality education, the rich usually invest much in their children’s education. This is meant to empower them with the right skills most of which are so vital in life. Apart from excelling in their education, the emphasis is also directed at enhancing their life skills. Eventually, even after school, such kids are more likely to make it in life with ease as compared to those who may have been educated in public schools.

The poor are, therefore, only left with a single option which in this case is to enroll in public schools but aren’t able to access all the vital resource as those who make it to private institutions. Some also experience a high enrolment rate yet the teacher-student ratio is by far not adequate as per the international rate. The teachers are as well poorly paid unlike those in private schools where they are well compensated. This can affect their output while performing their duty and thus go a long way in affecting their student’s life. Education is, therefore, a private good owing to the fact only a few people gain quality education leaving out a bigger majority of the society.
