Martha is a professionally qualified preschool teacher that over the course of her 23-year teaching career has helped her mold more than 500 students. She was inspired to join the profession by her love for children and passion for teaching. To maintain professionalism, protect the public and ensure that early childhood professionals perform education services safely and completely. There has been an establishment of self-regulatory colleges for educators. The college ensures that all its members must meet the entry to practice requirements and standards of practice of the profession. This then allows parents the ease of mind that their children are in the care of a qualified professional.

ECEs major roles include assessing children's developmental needs and stages in all developmental areas. Through designing curriculums to address children's identified needs, stages of development and interests. An ECE must have the ability to plans programs and environments for play and activities that help children make developmental progress. As such it is very important to maintain healthy emotional and social learning frameworks for children. Finally, the ECEs then report to parents and supervisors on children's developmental progress within healthy, safe, nurturing and challenging play environments.

It takes a while to fully get to know individual students in term of strengths and weakness hence having smaller classes allows teachers to be more impactful. Through experience, Martha attests to a good teacher to student ratio been 1:10, as each and every student, has his or her personality and cultures that have to be tamed but at the same time Developed. It is essential to have a classroom that is developmentally appropriate, that includes aspects such as, physical environment, curriculum easy enough for teachers to interpret and flexible to the needs of individual students and constant communication between teachers and parents. The integration of these aspects gives the opportunity to the best possible experiences in the classrooms. A developmentally appropriate classroom is one that is a safe, secure, and stimulating place where each child can grow physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Classrooms should consist of developmentally appropriate materials and learning centers for the children to explore. In general, the atmosphere of the classroom should be relaxed because children learn more when they feel psychologically safe.

It is essential that curriculums be developmentally appropriate, challenging enough for the children to have some fun still. Collective instructions and waiting times for young children should be limited, as they tend to have very short attention spans. There should also be appropriate transition activities provided for. It's also extremely vital that the classroom and curriculum celebrate each child's strengths and adjustable to their home cultures. Teachers need to form at least five simple personal habits such as enjoy teaching, strive to make a difference in students’ lives, always be positive, be reflective and form relationships. These will help to interact with the children and lead them in a positive manner to encourage their self-esteem and help teach them problem-solving and cooperation.

It is my opinion that of utmost importance to realize that these roles can only be enforced when all stakeholders are actively involved. Even though children spend the majority of their time in school, technological advances at home cannot be ignored. Curriculums at schools need to be constantly reviewed to try and ensure that teachers are not the ones playing catch up to students. There needs to be a balance between that which a student can acquire at home is not equal to that of the school environment, these need rather compliment one another to develop students even further.
