What Perspective Is Being Communicated?

An article from the New York Times that is titled "is your body appropriate to wear to school?" brought out burning debates and opinions. The article involved the dress code required for students when attending school. The article targets at discussing the kind of discrimination that students face while choosing their dressing code. Most schools in the United States have dress codes where in this articles, it outlines some of which the students deem challenging and discriminatory. Some of this dress code set by the school administrations cause problems especially if they are based on specific gender requirements or sex stereotypes ( Krischer , 2018). The major perspective being communicated in this article is on gender-specific requirements when it comes to dressing code while attending schools.

What Leads You To That Conclusion?

In the article, the writer gives an example occasion that involves Lizzy who felt offended by the school official after being told to cover up her nipples. She had been swimming for the better part of the weekend where she had experienced sunburns on her skin. When she dressed ready for school, she felt very uncomfortable with a bra since it constricted her burned skin. However, she opted to wear an oversize dark T-shirt to avoid causing distractions. She was accused of causing distraction to other students and informed to change. She was handed bandages to cover her nipples, which she felt offended since she never caused any distraction to other students.

Does This Perspective Line Up With Your Own?

The perspective on discrimination on the dress code, in this case, corresponds to my perspective. Lizzy was the one who was distracted by being told to wear bandages, which made her lose her concentration in class ( Krischer , 2018). Her outfit was considerate since she never wanted to cause any distraction while at the same time maintaining her comfort.

Does It Line Up With The Basics Of The Christian Worldview?

The discrimination caused on students due to the school dress code does not conform to the Christian worldview. The basic Christian worldview involves proper and conservative dressing where one is comfortable with their dress code while causing no distraction to others. Lizzy was dressed for her comfort while causing no distractions to fellow students. However, the administration of the school viewed her dress code as inappropriate.
