Bryan Stevenson wrote the book “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption” delivering the message of justice for humanity. It was at a time when execution was being carried out for the people who were considered to have offended others. However, Stevenson feels that it was unfair as some of the people; especially the poor and black people did not have lawyers who would represent them in the court of law. He was thus dedicated to fighting for the poor, voiceless and those oppressed in the society. The following work will show how Stevenson has delivered his message to the audience.

The intended audiences by Stevenson are the people in people and influence, those who can change the lives of the oppressed and poor. The law firms, for example, have the ability to provide lawyers to the voiceless people. The lawyers should ensure that they defend the victims the best way possible to avoid unfair punishment. The government is also an audience, and Stevenson indicates that they should avoid wasting money which can be used to improve the lives of the people by avoiding commercializing everything including healthcare.

The modes of development that Stevenson applied in the book were using dialogue, for example, between him and some individual who required his law services. One of the men told Stevenson that he was innocent and he had to consider that during the defense. Evidence has also been used in the book, for example, financial evidence, where Stevenson indicated that in 1980; more than 6.9 billion dollars were spent on federal government. Stevenson felt that the money could be invested in more helpful activities like benefiting the oppressed.

Stevenson presents a biased view of events. He is only asking for the help of the poor, oppressed and voiceless and forgetting their contribution to where they are, or if those groups were even putting any effort to get out of their situation. In one case, Stevenson was visiting a death row and had to face five desperate men who had been condemned to death. Stevenson is only looking at how the men are condemned but not analyzing the reasons they were in the position. Talking of the incompetence of the police in Monroe Country after the murder of a girl, yet the reasons making the police incompetent is not explored.

The author is highly credible. The information he has presented as instances of lack of justice and mercy among the poor and oppressed has also been researched by other authors. The information is primary data since Stevenson has written about the experience he had and his fight for the poor people, making the information reliable since it has not been interfered with. The information such as on the death penalty can be traced in important documents such as the constitution of America to verify the credibility.

Stevenson inserted himself throughout the story. It has been written in the first person, an indication that Stevenson is narrating the events as they were happening in his presence. The method has enhanced the credibility of the author and elevated the story since it is understandable and reliable. Stevenson has also provided that he referred to when writing the book and the statistics and facts have been documented, making it easy to refer to them if there is a need.

Stevenson has delivered the message in the book in a credible and believable manner. I believe the information written is enough and documented in the correct way thus did not require any addition. I was able to take the word of the author on the conditions that have been described. The approach in which the book is written is the best, instead of more than journalistic approach. The information is provided first hand which means there are no distortions recorded. The direct quotes make the work even better since the exact words that were talked about are indicated. Stevenson uses a narration approach, indicating his work in ensuring that there was just for the oppressed. Illustrations have been used in the development mode.

The key points that Stevenson provided in the book were oppression of the poor, murder, overspending of money and unjust executions. Stevenson studies law so that he could be available for the poor people who were condemned yet did not have any person to represent them. Stevenson wanted to ensure justice mostly for the black community. Stevenson preached on equality of all people before the eyes of God. He thus believed that despite the race of the person, they were supposed to be treated fairly. Stevenson indicated that the state government was using the state finances in the wrong way. The money was supposed to be invested in public areas such as healthcare which would benefit the people. Throughout the novel, Stevenson has provided how the minority were oppressed and indicated how he shows mercy to them and calling for other such as the police and government to protect the poor and oppressed.
