Kevin Ware's Case study

Five Important Points 

Kevin Ware's injury was viewed as the end of his basketball career. However, to him, he saw as an opportunity to make progress and become a star as a player when everyone else viewed him as fragile after the injury. 

He was committed to his team at Louisville that he even did not feel pain or damage after he had the injury. All he wanted was his team to win the game. This shows how selfless and committed he was to his team. 

After his injury, he became very popular, and everyone noticed him as Kevin _ the guy with a broken leg and not as a basketball player. Many of his teammates approached him in a soft way fearing not to hurt him. This reduced his morale while playing since he did not get the challenge he wanted while playing. 

Kevin felt that he was not being treated as he should. He wanted to be treated as a basketball player, however, his peers treated him as ‘guy with an injury’ (Carmichael, 2013). This made him look weak and of less contribution to the team. 

He left Louisville and went to Georgia where he was treated as a team player. This shows his commitment to being a basketball star through perfecting his game without receiving a special treatment during the game (Ware, 2016).

Ware’s Rehabilitation Adherence . 

During his rehabilitation, all he wanted was to get healed from his injury and get back to the court to display his potential skills. He was treated softly during his training and games while in Louisville. He did was not comfortable with this kind of treatment. He did not have time to show his skills on the court while being treated as an ‘injured player.’ He opted to quit Louisville and join Georgia where he was treated as a normal player during the game. This made him feel better and proud of himself (Lake, 2014). 

Kevin’s Stress-Related Growth 

Kevin's treatment during and after his injury while in Louisville was not satisfactory for him. He was known for his injury and was treated as an exception while playing after his injury. He was not contented with the fame he gained due to his injury. Rather, he wanted to be known for his playing skills. His healing process was complete when he joined Georgia where he was treated equally during the game. He showed his potential on the court and gathered his fame through his playing, not the injury (Himmelsbach, 2014).

Prognosis 

My opinion on Kevin's medical progress is that his prior treatment while in Louisville would have caused a quicker recovery to his injury but would have worsened his health emotionally and psychologically. Being a member of Georgia's team and his fair treatment caused both physical and psychological cure for his damage.
