The text describes the moral development and all the theories involved in the development of human being. It starts by defining moral development as the development process in children in relation to their behaviors and attitudes towards those close to them in the society. Basically, this development revolves around the cultural and social laws, rules and norms. Some of the theories involved are Piaget’s theory which discusses the development of moral reasoning in children, Kohlberg’s theory which discusses the moral development in adults and adolescents. All these theories have their weaknesses which have formed the basis of criticism, for example, Kohlberg’ theory is criticized for being quite Western, intellectual and urban and goes to the extent of discrediting tribal, working class and rural. There are other cognitive development theories that believe that morality is basically an outgrowth of reasoning and cognition. The text is concluded on the common problems that face the moral development process and the concerns of the parents whose kids are going through the process.
