Prose writers posses various skills of passing information from one person to the next. They are experts in telling storied by using various literary devices that are not easy to interpret. Some of the topics or themes evident in these stories were leadership, coexistence, relationships, and urban lives among others. Therefore, this paper is an analysis of three articles published by different authors. The articles have a central topic of leadership and ancient live styles. The topic of leadership and ancient lifestyles is important because it enables the readers to read and understand how people lived in the olden days. It also provides an understanding of how leadership structures influenced ‘the lives of people who lived in that era. On the same note, the topic is important because modern leaders can borrow some methods of leadership and use them to make the current generation’s generation to make life better.
The prose title “The Wives of Bath Tale” is a poem that aims to reveal to the reader how ancient times were and structures present. According to this story, the leadership styles of the ancient times comprises of kings and Knights (Chaucer, 1). On the other hand were queens and maidens. It is clear by reading the prose that the Kings had supreme power over all the land. The same power has been moved down even to the current era when king are no longer in existence. The story reveals that even though not recognized by the law, the Kings preserved some duties for their queens; the queens also had some degree of decision making on matters affecting he community, especially those that affected women. Moreover, in the prose, it is evident that the King ruled the land, and was supported by his Knights. However, someday, the knight took advantage of a woman (Chaucer, 4). When word got to the king, he decided that the best punishment for such a person was to die by the sword.

Instead, the queen pleaded with the king to spare the knight’s life. Upon hearing this, the king decide to leave the knight in the care of the queen who gave him an option of running away; this incident provide relevant information on the subject of women and love. By doing this, the queen showed that leadership should aim too reserve life and use people’s mistakes to set the right record. She decided not to kill the knight and taught the rest of the men a lesson, which required that they should care for the women as well as respect them. The poem aims to inform the reader that despite the evil that prevails among them, it is important for them to uphold good deeds and avoid evil. Unlike the old leadership methods that did not respect women, it was important for the people to love one another and respect life with the aim of creating harmony instead of sowing discord. Leaders of modern days can follow the footsteps of the queen to ensure that they pass fair judgment upon people with the aim of creating lasting peace among themselves and in the communities in which they live.
The prose written by Chaucer (2) also talks about leadership and how it influences women’s lives. The prose reveals a woman thanking God for the life and the men who have wedded her. The woman states that of all these men, she has not come across a perfect one like her husband at that time. The prose aims to indicate that nations and in particular people experience different levels and styles of leadership. Of all the forms of leadership that people in a country or a community may face, the most important form is the one that brings peace, meaning, and happiness in people’s lives. On that same note, the prose reveals that people will always live to remember every good and bad type of leadership styles that they have encountered (Chaucer, 7).
However, contrary to popular believes, they will always choose to remember and revere the best types that brought positive change in their lives. The poem also aims to report how old leaders lived (Chaucer, 9). For example, men could marry many women but no one ever reproached him for it. The prose shows that there was that old king Dan Solomon who married many wives. The woman in the poem wonders what gift he had for all his wives but does not mention Solomon being reproached for his many wives. However, the public reproached the woman or the narrator for having had five husbands. In fact, she is told that the fifth husband is not rightfully hers. The poems reveals how old traditions treated women irrespective of the good and bad leadership efforts present in the era. Women were forbidden from doing many things, unlike the current generations. The fifth husband in the poem may also function to symbolize the leader who will not care about the needs of the people he or she leads.
The story titled The Romance of Roses by Lorris and Meun also talks about leadership styles and types of gifts they aim to leave for the people they lead. Any type of leadership should always aim to leave their followers with a gift that should last for as long as they live For example, they should aim to provide avenues for creating peace (Lorris and Meun 224). Moreover, leaders should aim to promote social development and educational or technological advancement within their territories. On the same note, they should also ensure that their gifts, as the book calls them create a lasting impact on the people they govern. For example, the article states that one can give roses, apples, or cherry (Lorris and Meun 223). On the other hand, the person can give wild cherries and other wild types of fruits present in the world. Either of these serves to symbolize how leadership can give good or bad gifts to the people they lead. They can choose to promote or delineate the lives of the people they lead.
Similarly, the narrator in the article states that whatever the gift a leader decides to give, they should do so modestly (Lorris and Meun 225). For example, they can decide not to make their gifts the center of their attention because according to the article, gifts serve to alter people’s minds and behavior. On the same note, gifts can make the poor prisoners and this remain poor. This factor means that leaders should aim to leave lasting impressions on the activities or developmental project that influence people’s lives positively. For example, the gifts and leaders actions should aim at developing the lives of the people they lead. They should provide avenues for development for the people they lead. The leaders also need to ensure that their actions aim at promoting the lives of the people they govern by paving ways that the people can emulate. On the same note, the article calls upon leaders to lead by example and always have the interest of the people they lead at heart (Lorris and Meun 228). According to the prose, a good leader should know the type of gift to leave for their electorate based on their needs but not on the needs of the leader and those around d them (Lorris and Meun 251).
In conclusion, the literary works portray the themes of leadership, relationships, coexistence. The authors of the pieces of literature utilize different styles to bring out the themes and more specifically the theme of leadership. The authors of the chosen stories, through their actions portray leadership qualities and the reader can easily gain from the experiences, which they went through. Understanding leadership and how it integrated it into ancient lifestyles, is an important component since it enables the readers to read and understand how people lived in the past and apply to the recent times.
