Human beings tend to be selfish all their lives for no practical reasons. However, the experiences arising from such acts tend to shape our perspective of life. It is, therefore, fair to acknowledge the fact that we learn valuable lessons from the failures that befall us at any given point in life. Such experiences shape our character and make life a continuous learning journey full of intriguing adventures. I am among those who have had to learn from failures.

In retrospect, I can recall how my pride almost cost my GPA. I scored highest marks in primary school and secured a superb high school. Mathematics was my easiest subject. While in high school, I could easily get 100 percent. After joining high school, my performance in mathematics remains high. I was the best students in math in any test conducted. However, when I was in my second year, the issue of adolescence and peer pressure sets in. I started developing an ego. I saw myself as the best student and even went to an extent where I started detesting my mathematics teacher. Furthermore, I developed a notorious habit of sneaking out of class during math lesson much to the amusement of my real friends. In the process, I missed several key topics. My ego and arrogance could not allow me to consult my fellow students.

Reality dawned on me when I became the last in one of the tests. I could not proceed to the next class. I had to repeat the course. This experience was the turning point in my life. I started respecting every person irrespective of the age, ability, and sex. I reformed and changed for the best. I did not only start excelling in academics but also in discipline and behaviors. That event changed my life philosophy too. I am currently a humble, respectful and hardworking person. I realized my mistakes, humbly accepted the failure and resolved to change for the better. I am glad I learned my lessons.
