Liberty and order are two vital goals that are integral when establishing a constitution. However, these two goals are conflicting and need balancing. In this increasing age of insecurity, the government has been promoted to make a choice between maintaining individual liberties and securing society. Maintaining order on society and protecting individual liberties are interrelated and mutually reinforcing. Individual liberty is regarded as a precondition to security. Human beings have inherent rights, which should be protected in the constitution just as much as securing order in the constitution (Liberty vs Order).

The U.S Constitution has done major advance and safeguard liberty. It ensures individual liberties are protected from breach by the government authority and building a government that has the authority to uphold order in a civil society. The Bill of Rights protects individual liberties from encroachment by the government authority. It can be concluded that, looking over the history of the Bill of Rights, we have gone too far preserving one over the other in the United States. The government has legitimately gone in significant lengths to restrict the individual liberties in its pursuit of maintaining order by limiting liberties such as freedom of speech, press, and assembly. These restrictions threaten the individual liberties. By pursuing order, it is suggested that the Bill of Rights could minimize liberty by giving force to the argument that rights, which are not listed in the constitution could be breached. This would eventually led to protections of the Bill of Rights being extended to the infringements of the state as well as federal (Delong 54).

Preserving liberty is more important than making an image of the Constitution because advancing life and liberty as well as pursuing happiness is very crucial. Individual liberties helps to prevent cases such as torturing humans indefinitely and detaining innocent people in jail without trial or charges. Restricting the individual liberties poses such threats to the inherent rights of people. Therefore, it is legally improper for the government to restrict individual liberties in order to pursue maintenance of order constitutionally because there is no grantee that this action will not result in infringement on individual liberties (Delong 67).
