The United States of America as is one of the few nations of the world that has fully adopted democracy of its nations. Able leadership has facilitated liberalization of capital and offered its citizenry the freedom to decide what to do with their lives regarding career. The military as a part of the government maintains both internal security and prevent external attacks from enemies of the United States. Military power offers the nation n advantage in both achieving the safety of the nation and performing the diplomatic duty of intervening in countries involved in civil strife or war outside the territory of the USA. Over the years, selection of the military service personnel has been through volunteerism. However, mandatory police service remains an option, which the policy makers can choose to adopt. This paper seeks to argue out why mandatory military service is important and that the government of the USA should institute it.
A citizen of the United States enjoys certain rights by being human. These rights, for example, the ones contained in the Declaration of Independence apply to the rest of the human population. However, being a citizen of the most powerful country in the world allows the nationals to enjoy various advantages that the other nationals of the other countries do not. These rights are acquirable by naturalization (Watson, 2010). With that said, it, therefore, means that one has a responsibility that they should play for their country as much as they continue to enjoy the privileges offered by the nation. These roles of citizens towards fellow compatriots foster loyalty to the nation and are great boosters of patriotism. A mandatory military service to the USA government would bring nothing less than strengthening citizenship. It will also help in identifying people with military intelligence and knowhow that may competently serve as long-term soldiers.

Mandatory military service would help eliminate complacency among the citizens. Important to note is the fact that many Americans feel that it is the role of the “chosen” military workforce to guard and save their lives, and they have that right to enjoy. However, very few including the leaders have their sons or daughters serving as soldiers oversee. Mandatory service would place everyone at this responsibility at one point in time thus helping in the eradication complacency. With constant changes in the rate of unemployment, the mandatory military conscription would also address the problem since the young population would join military straight after school. The growing number of enemies against the USA continues to threaten her territory. There is a need for training capable military persons for defense against any attack. If everyone serves in the army at one point life, the numbers of the soldiers will remain high and military power would as insurmountable as it has always been. The threats by North Korea are becoming more real by day, which necessitates preparedness such as mandatory service in the army. Talking of freedom, people would feel the experience that exists for one to fight for their country to earn it. The general fallacy that citizens conceive about voluntary military service would end if everyone was directly involved in achieving the freedom and peace that exists in the USA (Geva, 2013).
In summation, mandatory military service advantageous to a country. This is so since it offers hands-on military experience to all, strengthens patriotism and equips the citizenry with the military skills in case of need of more workforce in the future. The government should therefore actively consult with the citizens on the viability of the institution of this system.
