The use and legalization of marijuana has been a controversial and debatable subject in the United States of late. Cannabis Sativa, commonly referred to as Marijuana is made from dried parts of the hemp plant. Some individuals argue that the use of marijuana is bad and illegal while others think that when utilized properly it can be of importance to the society. In my opinion, Marijuana should be legalized because of the few negative effects and also serves better than other drugs. The drug helps the body in many different ways. First, marijuana relaxes as well as relieves stress from individuals who use it. Research conducted by Caulkins et al. (2016) has proven that marijuana does not damage the brain cells as previously said. The drug also improves the creativity of people. When it is utilized, it makes them to have new ideas and think in a diversified way. Marijuana has been recommended by doctors for use in curing of cancer, migraines, glaucoma, AIDS and headaches.
In my opinion, I support the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes rather than recreational purposes. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are cannabinoids that naturally exist in marijuana resin used for medicinal purposes. The THC is used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, alleviation of AIDS symptoms by stimulating appetite and eating and minimizes tremors in spinal injury. Marijuana also reduces eye pressure in Glaucoma ( Adler & Colbert, 2013 ). However, it should be used under the guidance and recommendation of a doctor or physician. With regard to recreational use, Marijuana should not be legalized. Recreational use of Marijuana can lead to addiction and abuse, interfering with the aspects of people’s life. Marijuana use affects a person both physically and mentally and should not be allowed completely. Allowing the use of recreational marijuana in the United State could lead to a rise in teen use and medical emergencies will occur resulting from traffic death caused by high speed driving ( Anderson and Rees, 2014 ).

To conclude, it is true that when marijuana is used medically, it causes less-harmful alternative to pain relievers. Therefore, marijuana should be legalized purposely for medicinal uses as opposed to recreational use.
