Development Patterns and Considerations
When developing an essay that focuses on narration, the main aim is to incorporate a central story or several short stories as the foundation of the narrative. An essay is enjoyable to read when colorful details and intriguing events are incorporated and used in the buildup of the narration (Langan, 2016). The beginning and end of the narration is important, it has to be understood by the audience and also have direction. Three of essay development patterns to be discussed are; developing an essay with emphasis on description, essay development through revision and development through prewriting.
Essay development through description requires an organized essay complete with detail, language and communication. Description is normally focused more on facts and truths rather than opinions about the topic being described. The steps to be followed when using this developing pattern are; selecting a specific title for the essay, compiling information about the topic, marking the outlines of the topic including its major categories and sub-categories. The description must also have an introductory paragraph, body and summary of the essay. The language used must also be interesting and catchy to the audience (Langan, 2016). The use of dialogue is also crucial in this development pattern especially for communication between people described in the essay.

Essay development through revising requires a checklist. Revising allows that the writing is considered and reconsidered. It starts with identifying the main points, evaluating the good pieces and the evidence, identifying the readers purpose and polishing up the language. In revision a second or third party can be involved to gauge the opinions about the write-up.
Essay Development through Prewriting
Development through prewriting is a four-step process. After selecting the essay topic, one needs to gather all the information possible about it with a bibliographical understanding of every detail. After research, a conclusion can be drawn about the subject in the topic. An outline can then be created to organize the thoughts and information about the title and lastly use the outline as a guide for the draft (Langan, 2016). The narration should include a conflict and have a time limit. It should also emotionally capture the readers and support the topic and incident chosen. One needs to carefully think about the topic of the essay and develop questions about the topic, find answers to these questions and write them down, collect facts for each paragraph, find the main ideas and organize all the information into one piece.
Between the two student essays to be considered, Taking on a Disability and A Night of Violence, the first one lacks an opening thesis statement. A thesis statement that would work for this essay is ‘Disability is a sensitive issue that as community we need address’. I chose that statement because it is introductory, it opens the essay allowing the reader to follow through the development of the narration. An essay with unified paragraphs builds thoroughly on a single idea, logical arrangement of the paragraphs builds coherence and supports the main ideas of the essay.
‘ A little learning is a dangerous thing’- Alexander Pope
Knowledge is the most valuable asset. Being informed is also an elemental aspect in the history of humanity. Little knowledge is dangerous and can easily lead one to the wrong path of life and therefore for survival one needs information
Coining the phrase “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing” by Alexnder Pope implies that as much as we need food for growth and life, the brain also needs food. This nourishment comes in the form of knowledge on various areas of life and subjects. For instance, one cannot be a doctor without the knowledge of a doctor, same way surviving in the face of earth requires knowledge.
Little knowledge is not helpful especially in the changing times and a world driven by technology. We must all grow interest and enthusiasm for knowledge in order to keep up with the changes around us. Without sufficient knowledge, our value and existence slowly wear out.
Another example on the effect of little knowledge and its essentiality for survival is in medicine. Drugs and medical care save lives. Had it not been for research and the zeal for information so many lives would be lost. It also makes it easier on the harmful effects of medication.
In conclusion, a less informed person is dangerous, not just to the world but also to himself. Therefore, I agree with the quote by Alexndar Pope that little knowledge is dangerous.
