In “Multisensory Temporal Integration in Autism Spectrum Disorders” Stevenson and his colleagues discuss the main diagnostic tests for the autism spectrum disease. The primary DSM criterion is the sensory disruption which is combined with good vocabulary, communication, and social deficiency. A single sensory disorder experienced in ASD can be a disability to connect the multisensory data to a consolidated precept. The authors argued that it arises from a primary disorder in which people with autism have problems in recognizing the interrelationship between cross-modal intakes. The disorders can lead to speech problems on the infected victims. The paper focuses on the significant connection between sensory behaviors particularly the multisensory physical activity and speech disorders which are present in people with autism. The authors chose speech to integrate with sensory behaviors because it is the primary factor that is viewed in patients with autism.

Materials and Methods

The participants of the study were 32 patients with ASD and 32 individuals with TD. The age of the participants was between six to eight years old. Most individuals with ASD were male and score low grades in language tests. The people with autism were ranked as highly functional concerning the WASI model grades. The participants of the study were examined by credible researchers with autism, Asperger, and persuasive disability. The individuals with TD had no autistic or psychiatric disorder. The stimulant of the study was presented through centrally connected speakers. The procedures were carried out in soundproof and dim-lit premises.

Results and Discussion

The results of the study revealed that there is a significant consequence on the type of the stimulant, diagnosis, and interactions. Concerning the follow-up t examinations, the outcome of the study indicated that people with autism revealed a reduction in the multisensory temporary disability as compared to individuals with TD. The results of the research showed that there was no distinction between complicated and straightforward speech stimulant.

The authors found out that there is a weakness in multisensory integration in autistic individuals. The responses of the participants to the McGurk effects were computed. The calculations revealed that there was a distinction between the ASD and TD stimulus. This is an indication that people with autism have low chances of reporting bound precepts and can report auditory responses concerning the individuals with TD.

The second finding was that there is a positive interrelationship between the multisensory physical activity and weight of McGurk consequence among people with autism. The autistic individuals revealed significant relations between the length of TBW as well as McGurk effect through the utilization of speech, instruments, and flash-beep. The participants with TD did show any relationships when the stimulus was used. Lastly, the authors found that there were no differences between multisensory activities and speech. The tested were conducted on the stimulus and failed to show the differences between the elements.

In conclusion, it is clear that the sensory behaviors are related to the speech of people with autism, but it is not applicable to individuals with TD. There is a distinction between children with ASD along with TD concerning the multisensory activities. There is a need to conduct a further analysis of individuals with TD and ASD using other elements.
