My Disease Risk Factor: Assess Your Risk for Various Diseases

Breast Cancer 

The results from my risk assessment test of breast cancer showed that my risk was much below average. This shows that my chance of having breast cancer is very low. In order to prevent suffering from breast cancer, I have to be more physically active and eat more fruits and vegetables (Washington University in St. Louis, 2017). I learned that I have to begin having screened regularly from the age of 45. 

Diabetes 

The result of my risk assessment of diabetes showed that my risk of having it is above average. This means that there is a possibility that I may have diabetes. To reduce my risk of having diabetes; I have to achieve a healthy body mass, be more physically active, and also eat unsaturated fats, like vegetable oil, on most days (Washington University in St. Louis, 2017). I learned that I have to get my blood sugar checked regularly starting from age 45.

Osteoporosis 

The result from my risk assessment of osteoporosis showed that my risk is average. This means that the risk of having osteoporosis is low, but I may also have it. To lower the risk of having osteoporosis, I have to be more physically active, take a Vitamin D or multivitamin supplements on most days and also try to get about 1000-1200 mg of calcium a day (Washington University in St. Louis, 2017). I learned that I should get screened regularly for osteoporosis from age 65. 

Heart Disease 

The results from my risk assessment for heart disease showed that my risk is below average. The results show that my risk of heart disease is low. To lower the risk of having heart disease, I have to; get to a healthy weight, decrease my total cholesterol, eat more fish, fruits, and vegetables, be more physically active, stay smoke-free, eat unsaturated fats and also take multivitamins (Washington University in St. Louis, 2017). I have to get checked regularly by the health care professional for heart disease risk factors. 

Stroke 

The results from my risk assessment of stroke showed that my risk for stroke is much below average. This shows that I have a very low chance of getting a stroke. To lower the risk of stroke, I have to be; more physically active, decrease my waist size, stay smoke-free, reduce my total cholesterol, and I should eat more fruits and vegetables (Washington University in St. Louis, 2017). My screening tips showed that I should be checked regularly by a health professional for stroke risk factors.
