In my teen age, I still remember my childhood
Despite the age, I can remember the neighborhood
The neighborhood I grew in years ago
It proves hard to let the past go
memories of the sweet backyard
with my mind always trying to bring it forward
the beautiful backyard I will never forget
a backyard so neat with well shaved lawn
never got bored even when I was alone
this is where ‘Bingo’ the pet dog learnt how to play
we played till late and still demanded a longer stay
I well lit compound you’d confuse the moon for the sun
All these was made available by the father for the son
The beautiful backyard I will never forget
Sweet scents of different flowers
Making all the bees its followers
Colorful almost to beat the rainbow
All our visitors gave an honorary bow
No one else became the credit taker
but my mother the beautiful garden maker
The beautiful backyard, I will never forget.
The poem is about a beautiful backyard I grew up in. in writing the poem, I employed a flashback which goes back to my childhood playing in the backyard and now am in my teen age. Secondly, I used imagery to build and image of the garden at the back of the mind of the reader. And lastly, I used personification of the lawn to explain how well dresses it used to be by use of the word shaved.
