I vividly recall how the Globe theatre looked like when I went there during a certain play production. The interesting things I recall are design and structure, the materials that built it, its shape, lighting, heating and theatre ground.
The theatre arena was spacious enough and it accommodated thousands of audience. The audience faced the playing area directly and separation was done using the arch of the proscenium. The stage was a little lifted more than the first row of the people present. On the rake was the audience who sat at a higher level since the seats were at the rear side of the house. There was an impressive outlook of upstage, downstage, left the stage, right stage center stage and offstage.

The apron was medium in size. The safety curtain was heavy, fireproof, was made of fiberglass and placed just before the proscenium. The shell reflected the sound so well to the audience and I was impressed. The smoke pocket contained the safety curtain so well. Orchestra is positioned in front and below the stage pit. The orchestra was specialized in that they had elevators that raised the floor of the pit up stage up the same level as the stage. The lobby, catwalks, control booth, auditorium, and vomitorium were well made and looked attractive.
The stage dimensions cannot be precisely specified since they varied from twenty feet wide and fifteen foot deep to forty-five foot to thirty feet. The stage was supported using large pillars and raised three to five feet. The yard was located around the stage. The cheapest part of the theatre was that there was no seating. The audience had to stand. There was halfway projection of the ’yard’ where the commoners had to stand and watch the play. If it were not for such a yard, then the commoners could be crowding around the three sides of the stage structure. Above the main entrance, there was a motto of the globe theatre; “Totus Mundus agit histrionem’ (the whole house is playhouse). Timber, nails, stones and tiled roof were used as building materials.
