For this assignment, the museum of choice is the National Gallery of Art. This museum is located in Washington, D.C., US. This museum was established in the year 1937. This gallery collects, preserves and fosters, and exhibits art from a wide range of artists worldwide. The location of the museum puts it in an advantaged position compared to others. First, it’s located on the constitution avenue between the third and nine streets. The gallery is easily accessible in terms of transportation because several subways stops can be used to access it. The museum is also a ten minutes’ walk from the metro station.
Being located in the US headquarters puts it at a central position where it receives local diplomats and international visitors and tourists. The museum has also considered its accessibility by providing parking space (NGA, 2020). When you arrive at the museum, there is parking space for vehicles in front of the building from the sixth entrance or the fourth. In addition, limited parking has been set aside for cars bearing appropriate placards or tags for individuals with disabilities. The entrances of the building have been designed with ramps considering people on wheelchairs or those with strollers. However, a disadvantage is that the parking available is based on a first-come, first-served, meaning some visitors might miss a parking spot.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
One of the reasons why I chose this museum is because it is among the top galleries in the US. It contains about 150,000 paintings from different types of artists. Secondly, the museum offers a diverse amount of arts. One can access art that was created 100s of years back and get a recently done painting; even the ones did as early as this year. In this case, one can access modern and old art, allowing one to learn about the history and understand how the evolution of art is created over time. Lastly, the gallery’s kit offers a virtual tour. The website is easily accessible, with a lot of information about the gallery, and provides the arts available for virtual tours.
The museum's mission is “to serve the USA in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of works of art, at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards” (NGA, 2020) . The National Art and Gallery legislation, staff guidelines, and bylaws all contain the procedure and policies that are cumulatively set to achieve the organization's goals.
The primary duty of the museum is to maintain the standards of the art for future generations. The gallery has to keep the rat collection intact and in good condition to stay for years to come. The Gallery endeavors to uphold operational programs of environmentally-friendly control, security, conservations, and building maintenance (NGA, 2020) . The gallery also confines its art collection to art on paper works, sculptures, and paintings, those in the present and from mid little ages, from America and Europe. A trustee policy permits the museum to receive it. Besides, substantial additional works of art collaborating with significant aids in the museum's art assortments' fundamental parts.
Besides, the museum enhances the exhibition. The museum is committed to placing its collections visible in Washington. Also, by credit somewhere else, just as acquiring masterpieces for Washington’s exhibition as its gathering ground is tight in contrast with the world's craft, the Museum endeavors to enhance its works using shows of arts from different occasions and different societies. Also, the museum is obliged with nurturing understanding. The National Art is an organization devoted to cultivating a comprehension of show-stoppers works on a wide range. From cutting edge research directed to the Center for Progressive Visual Arts Study and by its custodians, to the distribution of information to the guests also to the most extensive conceivable understudy and overall population, the gallery is an educative establishment.
Nonetheless, the Art Museum accomplishes its mission because the art collected by the gallery has been well maintained and easily accessible to the American people and visitors. Also, the exhibition's goal is being met because the gallery contains works from many other nations in the world, not just from those in Europe or the US (NGA, 2020) . The gallery has met its goal of being an educative establishment because it teaches students about art. The shows are available for students to access them to learn. For instance, the Art gallery offers a wide range of resources and programs to teachers to nurture understanding and a lifetime connection to art. Art also exhibits art from other societies in the world. In terms of conservation, to ensure that the arts are available for a future generation, the art gallery is involved in conservation projects. For instance, the French sculpture project whereby, for the first time, the art is exhibited in the gallery permanently for the public to view instead that when it was behind the scenes in a conservation laboratory.
The virtual tour experience in the gallery was good. The museum provides access to arts virtually. The contents available are also offered in 3D, whereby l was able to see the art and zoom in on all the contents. They view clear, and you can be able to read the information available. The 3D aspect provides one with a complete view of the room, and you can view all the art available that is related to what you were seeing. Every content has a curator’s video that explains the artists, the background information, the type of art, the artist style, and all the necessary information about the art. If the curator’s video is not available, an audio clip of the live tour is provided whereby you can get information on the art.
Furthermore, every art material has information on it that explains about the art. For instance, one of the exhibitions that I virtually toured, known as True to nature, had many other paintings, curator’s video, and the gallery also had a video on weather in art, the symbol of science. The video contained a lecture by David Goriff explains what weather means in art and the shifting definitions and visual explorations of weather in European painting. I enjoyed the virtual tour and learned a lot. However, I think the art gallery should add more exhibition on the virtual tour so that people can access more art.
