Do you think the message was more effective at changing players’ behaviors than it would have been if they brought in a doctor or former player who had contracted HIV/AIDS? Why or why not?
The message was not very effective. The NBA message to its on HIV/AIDS awareness to its players couldn’t have been more impacting having been centered on the team experience than from expert doctor or former player who had contracted the pandemic. This is because, a good portion of imparting effectual discipline into learners does not just involve conveying to them what one thinks they should know but rather involves ascertaining what they know, what they are not aware of, as well as what they think they know but they aren’t fully aware of it or its implications per se. Using an expert in such a scenario as HIV/AIDS awareness and preventive measure to the NBA team thus could have been much fruitful and effective if it could be centered on the players (Reaching Students, n.d) . Such an approach is important in helping to establish a solid framework of understanding that would help support the new knowledge coming to the players. Bringing in a basketball star like the Magic Johnson who had contracted the disease but lived to testify against its throes while enlightening young players about healthy ways of living would have been more effective means of conveying this message ( Magic Johnson, 2017).

Do you think it was ethical for the NBA to send the message in this way? Why or why not?
It was not ethical for NBA to convey a message regarding HIV/AIDS in such a manner. This is attributable to the knowledge that since any person can contract the disease and some could be victims knowingly or unknowingly but they deserve rights to confidentiality. The victims of the disease may feel under pressure, with no hope to live again, stigmatized which suddenly can lead to traumatic experiences which can even be suicidal. Confidentiality in regard to HIV/AIDS is important in so that victims do not face discrimination. Therefore the passing of information by the NBA should have been moderated so that it does not become the source of stressful life (Legislative Advocacy, n.d) .
How could this strategy be incorporated into other kinds of messages that we often want to convey to young people (e.g., staying in school, the dangers of doing drugs, smoking, drinking and driving)?
This strategy can be incorporated in the passing of similar information to students by having expert tutors who put themselves in the shoes of the learner and make learning more centered on the learner than just giving instructions. Teaching and learning are two distinct processes which are highly intertwined aspects of a complex process shaped by both the tutor and the learner. Understanding the psychology of the learning individual is a very important aspect in passing on the message whether it is drugs, smoking, driving while drunk etc. Being an expert involves understanding the backgrounds of certain misconceptions (Reaching Students, n.d) .
