The Executive Council, members of the Technical Secretariat, representatives of our Subsidiary Bodies, Emissaries and Dignitaries present, partners from the academic sector, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.
Am privileged to be here with you today so as to shed light on the progress our organization has achieved over the years. We have been dedicated to encourage the global disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. I am here to pay patronage on the achievement of the global nuclear energy ban. Since the review by Randy (2014), our center has achieved many milestones over the years as noted by the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2019 (Fernando 2019). The conference also highlighted various challenges that we encounter.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Our governing convention aims at eliminating the threat posed by nuclear weapons. Over the years the world has experienced catastrophic events like the 2011 Fukushima nuclear meltdown (James and Hibbs, 2012), the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the atomic disaster of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan in 1945 (Association of Arms Control, 2014). Japan has clearly felt the greatest impact on the nuclear disaster and we thank them for the advocacy efforts they have continued playing on disarmament and non-proliferation.
We continue to urge member states to share information, carry out public awareness campaigns so that we can achieve our objectives. We continue setting the pace on treaty ratification and implementation. Now more than ever, we need each other’s cooperation and expertise. We also continue to urge our members to contribute financially as we strive towards our goal. It is true that we have a long way to go but I feel confident that we are on the right course.
Thank you.
