Part 1

The data set used in the comparison of data dates back to about 1500 years. Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) weakens in about 15% dating back to 200years. This is a long period of observation that enabled the identification of even slight or slow changes witnessed in the oceanic movement (The Associated Press, 2018)

The time frame is enough to identify changes. The time frame was able to detect the slow changes that would have otherwise not be noticed if the period was reduced. Climatic changes, as well as a shift in the oceanic movements, tend to be slow which requires a long period and a close observation to be able to report changes (The Associated Press, 2018)

The slowdown in the oceanic circulation is as a result of global warming. Global warming is a shift in the temperatures which leads to the melting of the icebergs and glaciers in the oceans. The melting of the icebergs and glaciers, in turn, causes an increase in the freshwaters in the oceans. This causes the sea levels to rise and might result in other environmental disasters such as floods. Global warming affects ocean circulation through surface warming and surface freshening. When water is warm, the density reduces and therefore a reduction in deep water formation.

Global climate change is the significant change in the variation of the expected weather patterns after a long period due to various causes. Global warming contributes to the melting of icebergs and glaciers; thus the increase in the volume of fresh water in the northern oceans. The increase in freshwater causes a reduction in salinity and density of the ocean waters. This effect causes the water to slowly and move towards the Southern Hemisphere. This movement causes a significant slowdown of thermohaline circulation (Ostrom, 2010) . The increase in carbon dioxide in the air affects the natural circulation of the ocean due to the distortion and reduction in the thermohaline circulation. This indicates a direct connection between global warming and oceanic circulation. A change in one of them affects the other.

Part 2

Protecting Our Planet.

Global climate change future impacts might be very adverse which call for the need to protect our plant from further degradation. It is unfortunate that major causes for global changes are manmade and are advancing as industrialization intensifies. The planet earth is the source of all resources required for the prosperity and wellbeing of humans. To meet our future needs, we need to protect the planet and slow down the impacts of global climate change if they cannot be reversed.

Efforts should be put in place to address climate change due to the effects it is causing to humans. Climate change affects the economic, psychological, and social aspects of human development (Ostrom, 2010) . Global warming results in harmful impacts that can lead to natural disasters such as storms and significant flooding. Working towards slowing it down or reversing the state will lead to a clean and safe environment full of resources.

Yes, Changes in the Atlantic Ocean can be manipulated by the change in the climate though at a very slow rate. This is because to reverse the effects of global warming cannot happen instantly, and it needs commitment and collaboration from different stakeholders. Failure of which, the ocean will keep receiving toxins and experiencing the changes. The reduction of greenhouse gas emission in the atmosphere will cool down the water to reduce the melting rates of the icebergs and glaciers in the ocean. This will start to speed up the circulation after some time and reverse the state.
