The presence of an optimal learning environment is useful in ensuring active learning and teaching purposes. Some of the essential requirements for an optimal environment are proper ventilation, lighting, and minimal noise (Williams, 2019) . Various distractions can deter a person from properly utilizing the learning session. In most cases, people tend to be exposed to disturbances. Optimum learning environments develop from attending to student's needs, enhancing a supportive learning environment, and providing feedback (Erwin, 2016) .

As a student, I have also gone through various hindrances while learning. My experience took place while in a class session. There was this girl by the name Purity who sat at the row to my right. She always seemed distracted, reason being, she had her phone at all times browsing through various social media sites. She had a way of hiding the phone in her book so she would look like she was reading. She kept on receiving text messages but was not in a position to reply. So, every time a text message came, some light appeared indicating a new message. This habit kept distracting me almost throughout the semester.

An environment that I would consider optimum for my learning would constitute a silent one that is free from electronic gadgets. Switching off or putting these gadgets in silent mode would be a better means to do away with electronics-related distractions. The use of electronic devices can even cause poor performances (Buccino, 2018) . Moreover, other punitive measures can be taken by the instructor to prevent similar recurring behaviors from taking place. An optimum learning environment is essential for both the student and teacher since the process is made easy. The results from a better understanding that can develop from an improved learning environment can be reflected in the performances of students (Learning Liftoff, 2016) .
