Parent-Child Interactions
The parent-child interaction was strained, in the sense that the child kept away from its parent. Notably, the parent showed no real concern regarding the child’s feeling, rarely taking time to observe what the child was doing or involved in. Based on the observation, the parenting style is ‘neglectful parenting’ style. The parent cared little about what their child was doing and often dismissing the child’s pleas, if there were any. The child, on the other hand, chose to keep to themselves, always avoiding situations that will bring attention to them.
Goodness of Fit
There is a lack in fit between the child’s temperament and the environment they are in, taking into account the parenting style being practiced. The parent tends to react aggressively (nearly violently) to the child’s wants. The child chooses to stick in one place, and when eventually forced to move to another space, they are uncomfortable and react by reclining to a ‘safe place’ to avoid being noticed. The neglectful attitude of the parent allowed the child to seek their own ‘space’ by avoiding any activity that will arouse their parent’s attention. The aggressive reaction by the parent created a fearful environment for the child.

Disciplinary Observations
Behaviors That Prompted the Discipline of the Child
The child urinated on itself, to which the parent beat the child for failing to inform them that they needed to relieve themselves.
Types of Discipline Observed and Child Response
When the child made a mistake, the parent disciplined it through a thorough beating. At first, the child did not respond to the beating, which prompted the parent to be more violent resulting in the child crying. After being changed out of the soiled clothes, the child sat alone despite persistent calls by its parent to play with other children.
Relation of the Disciplinary Scenario to Research Evidence
The scenario affirms existing research evidence that neglectful parenting style results in children who lack self-confidence and are usually social inadequate. Throughout the observation, the child seems not to want to mingle or interact with other children, even when those other children sought the child out to play with them. A combination of authoritative and indulgent parenting that adopts a guiding discipline regimen would greatly help the child improve.
Personal Opinion
The parent does not accord the child the motherly love the child of that age so much requires. Secondly, the child demands attention which the parent does not deem necessary to offer the child. Finally, the child needs motherly guidance especially when they make a mistake. Hence, I would instead offer the child much love, more attention, and motherly affection which would have a positive impact on the child.
