What makes me think I have a right to counsel others?
The counselor aids an individual to unravel his or her issues in a positive way by assisting to clarify issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase awareness. Am qualified to counsel others if I have undertaken a professional course on counseling either a certificate, diploma or a degree from a renowned higher learning institution. Undergoing such training equips me with the right counseling skills such as understanding relational behavior and body language (McMahon, 2016).
Being able to keep other peoples issues confidential when they open up to me succeeds me to counsel others. People can only trust individuals who are good at keeping secrets not spilling people’s problems and specific issues to every tom, dick and harry. Not being judgmental is a key quality that every counselor needs, sympathizing with others predicaments makes me able to counsel others (Bond, 2015). An individual who is distressed or grieved would like it if you were able to place yourself in his or her shoes, understanding her reactions and feelings.

What do I have to offer the people I'm counseling?
Any individual who is struggling to deal with personal concerns can seek counseling; no issue is small or too big to ask for support. Therefore, as a counselor, I should be able to offer a talk-based therapy to the people am counseling. Talking about things that are bothering a person can help clarify the issues and put them into perspective. I should create an environment that provides support and a feeling of safety to the individuals is counseling, within such a trusting and safe environment, the client will be able to freely express his or her feelings and confront their negative personal traits (Bond, 2015). At the end of the session, I should have helped the individual reduce the confusion, allowing him or her to make positive changes in their attitude or behavior.
Am I doing in my own life what I'm encouraging my clients to do?
To be an effective counselor, having a strong ethical compass is vital. I do not do everything that I encourage my clients to do such as being too open or social. Nonetheless, a client should be able to trust that his or her information is confidential and safe with me (McMahon, 2016).
