The changing scope of jobs in the virtual environment has improved effectiveness and productivity in organizations. The technology segment has undergone a major revolution, thus influencing the scope of jobs. Organizations are using the technology to provide training programs, enhance creativity, develop skills, and communicate. The new digital technologies have revolutionized the scope of jobs by embracing new skills and knowledge required in the virtual world. Additionally, the health crisis accelerated the migration to a virtual environment with the imposed health restrictions by the governments (Neeley, 2020). However, the migration to the digital environment had started before the health crisis. COVID-19 accelerated the migration, with many companies and employees having to work virtually from home.
Do you think dejobbing is more on the horizon?
I believe that dejobbing is more on the horizon. Technological advancements, privatization, political instability, and globalization have led to the need for companies to be flexible, responsive, and competitive. Therefore, organizations focus more on the field of expertise and talent rather than the jobs. Furthermore, employees like freedom with their responsibilities and less standardized routine operations. Employees nowadays concentrate on the purpose of the activities involved and need interesting and challenging work. Therefore, demanding and knowledgeable employees question the predetermined set of operations and responsibilities, allowing diversity and encouraging creativity.

How do you think certain job components/requirements, including competencies, might change in this new landscape?
The advancement in the virtual work environment will influence job components and even enhance productivity. Innovations have eliminated some jobs and employees from the market. However, new job opportunities and good profiles have emerged. In the new landscape, employees will have to embrace new skills and knowledge. For instance, in developing countries, organizations embrace the new technology and use it to assess and develop leadership qualities through training (Alcañiz et al., 2018). Moreover, the digital segment is improving creativity due to completion and the need to innovate different products, thus creating diversity.
Digital innovation will continue influencing the company organizations and job components due to the evolving technology. The virtual landscape has influenced the scope of jobs, with new opportunities and profiles emerging with every new digital environment. Companies will continue encouraging worker autonomy through embracing job diversification and allowing creativity. Therefore, the virtual environment will influence job competencies and components with companies training or recruiting new talent.
